Get Ready to Have the Time of Your Lives In Galia Lahav’s Dancing Queen Collection

Oh this last year… we can’t even believe we made it to the other side. But here we are, seven days into 2021, and it looks like the sun is starting to come out. Of course, the wedding world has been forever changed by COVID, but we’re cautiously optimistic that by the time the spring wedding season arrives, dance floors will be open for business again - socially distant though they may be. If that prospect has you feeling the beat of the tambourine in your bones, brides, then you cannot sleep on this brand new Dancing Queen Collection from Galia Lahav Bridal Couture. Each dress that has you twirling on the dance floor is unforgettable and what isn’t from Galia Lahav anyway?

The Muse

Our FW 2021 bridal collection was inspired by that freedom of expression, happiness, and excitement that emanates from dance and movement. Named after the song “Dancing Queen” by ABBA from Mamma Mia!, the first musical our head designer Sharon Sever listened to while away at college, this collection is an homage to a woman’s artistic heart, independent spirit, and freedom to make her own choices in the way she represents herself.

The collection is influenced by two famed ballerinas who left a mark in the world of dance - Russian prima ballerina Anna Pavlova and Italian-Argentine ballerina and actress Alba Arnova. Pavlova, revered for her solo in The Dying Swan, was one of the most persuasive ballerinas of her time - helping to develop modern dance and debuting the first ever world-touring ballet company. And a bold, creative force, Arnova was challenged for her choice to wear a leotard that, due to lighting, made her appear semi-nude as she performed on television. The scandal caused her to be banned from Italian television, which in turn, pressured her to leave show business, but she remained an icon to dancers and women around the world. Similar to their own delicate, yet powerful and impassioned presences, this collection comprises feminine, yet strong ballet-inspired silhouettes.

What we’re particularly amped over, too, with these aisle styles is that not every bride needs to be a ballerina to appreciate and break a leg in their gowns: instead, they just need a desire to dance and jive. According to Sharon, “the ballerina is fascinating, her posture, her movement, and her phenomenal ability to carry all of her weight on the tips of her toes. It is a fantasy on earth.” Brides are one in the same! “They are beautiful and fascinating to look at, and they express themselves with their movement, glam, and elegant appearance.”

You can spot a bride as she approaches the ceremony aisle just as a dancer takes and consequently owns the stage. It’s her time to shine in the spotlight and no one can take that attention, that unflinching gaze away from her.

Details deserving of a standing ovation

As a former ballet, jazz, and lyrical dancer, I definitely live for the tutus and tights, but that’s what is so wonderful about this collection: every dress has its own rhythm and rhyme and not everything is prim, proper, and polished, rather it just has a story with equal parts sass and sophistication.

Graceful motion is represented throughout the collection, from light-as-air overskirts and detachable petticoats to sheer capes and delicate draping - all of which offer a whimsical feel and sense of freedom. Emphasis is on lots of volume without the weight of traditional fabrics. And new methods of construction for flattering corsets were used, as well as ballet-inspired necklines that reimagine the ballgown and full, pleated skirts for a modern take on the tutu. Other details taken from classic ballet costumes include hints of blush pink that add depth and dimension to the lace and embroideries that were created in our atelier and illusion fabric with rhinestones.

This voluminous two piece ball gown is constructed of a strapless corset mini dress and an extravagant tutu skirt with a modern twist. Made from embellished silk tulle, this gown features a playful bow detail in the back.

This romantic ball gown features a sparkly illusion fabric to accentuate the neckline. The sheer beaded lace detailing flows all the way from the inner corset to the sheer cap sleeves for a dreamy finish.

This celestial ball gown is fully embroidered with scattered crystals and beads that replicate a northern star galaxy. The embellishments wrap around the novelty pinwheel shaped skirt like stars in the sky.

Shimmering Swarovski crystals adorn this one-sleeve silk crepe dress. The embellished corset top and draped skirt with a thigh-high slit complement the asymmetrical silhouette for a memorable moment.

Crafted from luscious silk tulle and embroidered lace, this a-line dress features a sheer corset top with beaded applique and an elongating illusion neckline. The pleated skirt blends two laces with a woven branch motif.

3D flowers and silver crystal embroidery cascades across this blush and ivory dress. Construction details like the sheer square neckline corset and flowing lace skirt offer unbridled romance.

Voluminous pleated lantern sleeves steal the scene on this whimsical sparkling tulle ball gown with an alluring sheer-paneled corset and skirt.
