There is something sooo parallel between a walk down the aisle and the first time an actress or songstress takes the stage for the first time. There are nerves, there’s excitement, there’s fear, but altogether, it’s an indescribable feeling that neither a bride nor a performer can nor ever will forget. That spotlight, it’s incredible, and Galia Lahav’s latest Bridal Couture Collection, “Make A Scene,” features gowns that legitimately own the spotlight. They have so much star power to them, coupled with a noticeable humbleness and mystique that immediately makes us think of an ingénue who has her doubts, at first, but upon putting on her costume and her makeup, and hearing the applause of the audience when she finishes her first song, feels confident, self-assured, and ready for the whirlwind of fame to follow. That’s a bride for you, too. And that’s exactly how she feels when she steps into one of these…
Inspired by the musical “Dreamgirls,” Galia Lahav’s latest bridal couture collection, Make a Scene, welcomes you to the world of glamorous stage actresses, sultry chanteuses, and dramatic film starlets. This collection is about how a star prepares for her role and what happens backstage in the dressing rooms. “I was inspired by the process a star goes through before she steps out onto the stage, which is much like what a bride goes through for her wedding day,” says the brand’s head designer, Sharon Sever. The collection focuses on what goes on behind the scenes; and in a bride’s case, all the moments leading up to when she walks down the aisle.
This season, the gowns speak of self-love, confidence, and boldness, as well as the process of a bride blossoming into her own. Like the title characters in Dreamgirls, it’s a muse that looks at young women going out into the big world, listening to their own voices, and believing in themselves. For this couture line, the dream makers envisioned the bride taking center stage on her wedding day and making her dreams a reality. The collection is for the bride who isn’t afraid to make a scene, just as much as it is for the bride who often shies away from the spotlight, allowing her friends and colleagues to shine, but on this one day - her day - embraces the attention and limelight for as long as she has it.
There are so many amazing things about these dresses that have our ❤️❤️❤️, but what just gets to us the most is the fact that when a bride puts any of them on, she feels effortlessly empowered. Be it the silhouette, the details, the scene-stealing front or back of the dress, every single design has something about it that a bride can get so into. And even if she’s not exactly punchy and provocative, showboaty or overly spotlight hogging IRL, she can find the “role” (i.e. her dress) that gives her all that surety and élan and then rock it.
In this collection that includes tulle ball gowns, French guipure lace mermaid dresses, and silk column gowns, corsets play an important part in many of the designs as a detail that shows off the modern bride’s sexiness, confidence, and strength. Shades of ash pink and white played up with shimmery silver embellishments are used throughout the range for a soft, ethereal effect, while sculptural shoulders and fitted bodices add form and structure—a contrast that aptly illustrates both the demure and powerful sides of the contemporary bride. And showstopping features like dramatic detachable trains, daringly-low backs, and voluminous skirts make each dress a work of art, while proving the entire collection is unmistakably Galia Lahav.
All of the gowns, it’s true. Each one has a different song to sing and a different vibe to bring to your vows, but you can see them ALL in the gallery. For now, we figured we’d just highlight the ones that had us thinking we want you baby right off the bat…
