Honeymoon planning is a great time to talk about your travel styles, what you find romantic, and things you've always dreamed of doing. Then a good travel planner can help make it all happen. A honeymoon is one of the few times when employers will let you take a longer period off from work, so take advantage and go somewhere far, far far away, or for long enough that you can lose track of days. Chances are, this won't be as easy to do when you settle into married life and the real world resumes, so take advantage of it now! Photo location: Venice, Italy. Image Source.3. Pick somewhere new to you both. My number-one piece of advice for honeymooners is to go someplace neither of you have been before. This way, you start your marriage with an adventure that's new to you both, and enjoy the magic of discovering it together. Photo location: Wat Mahathat, Bangkok, Thailand. Image Source.4. Splurge on a stellar room. Your room matters more on a honeymoon; after all, you'll be spending more time in it than you would on a family vacation. So go for it: Spring for the suite with the amazing view, the Jacuzzi bathtub or the perfect plunge pool. I've never heard a couple regret that they splurged on a fantastic room -- but I have heard the opposite from couples who played it safe. Photo location: Conrad Resort, Samui, Thailand. Protect yourselves from major issues by purchasing travel insurance -- a good policy should cover you for anything from an accident on the way to the airport to medical evacuation. As for those other smaller snafus -- delayed flights, unexpected rainstorms -- remember that this too shall pass, and if you can laugh about it now, you'll make a good memory of it later. My advice: Plan no more than one activity per day, two if the second activity is a massage or romantic sunset or dinner. Photo location: Dunnottar Castle, Scotland. Image Source.7. Try something adventurous. There's no better time than your honeymoon to try something new to you both -- could be a resort scuba diving course, a cooking class, or horseback riding. It's the ultimate bonding experience, and gives you something to talk and laugh about for the rest of your lives. Photo credit: Aislinn Kate Photography.8. Get creative. Most hotels have special amenities on tap for romantic occasions, from flowers and champagne waiting on arrival to elaborate dinners featuring your favorite menu, set up on the beach, in a cove, even on a deck floating in the middle of the water. If you have a dream, talk to your travel agent or hotel concierge in advance -- the sky's the limit! Photo locations: Greece. Image Source.9. Share the love. There's no better way to share your gratitude at finding your soulmate than giving back. It could be bringing along school supplies for children in a developing country to simply donating your leftover Euros, pesos or baht to a local charity before leaving the country. You can even do it in the air: American Air's Change for Good program collects all forms of coins for UNICEF on the ride home. Photo location: Bali, Indonesia. Image Source.10. Bring back something special. My home is filled with art and knickknacks that I've collected on my travels; it reminds me of where I've been, and of how many amazing people and places there are in the world. If you find a piece of art or a craft that you love, get it you'll treasure it in years to come as you remember your beautiful honeymoon. Photo location: Bahamas. Image Source.
