Okay, so not many brides can rock a pair of kicks for their wedding and live to tell the tale… JK they totally can, but some do it better than others. Like Serena Williams. The tennis phenom wore a pair this weekend when she tied the knot to her Reddit founder hubby, Alexis Ohanian, and we can’t stop stalking her feed for more pics. They were too perfect.
The wedding was out of this world, altogether, but the bride straight up slayed with three outfit changes for the day. For the ceremony, Serena slipped into a picture-perfect princess ball gown a la Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Then, she swapped out the never-thought-she’d-wear-it silhouette for two Versace stunners, which included a long, heavily beaded and feathered gown (that took Donatella and her team more than 1,500 hours to create, just sayin’) and a much-shorter mini dress with a bejeweled bodice and a fluffy bottom. All of them were 👌 👌👌, but the last was our fave, because she paired it with the most kickass pair of Nike sneakers.
Let’s dive in for the details on her oh-so-fancy footwear:
The shoe itself was the Nike Cortez
They were custom made and decked out in intricately-placed silver, gold and platinum rhinestones that gave the look a serious disco vibe. Can you dig it?
The classic design of the running shoe gave Serena great comfort and range of motion, so she could kill it on the dance floor.

Long story short: the sneakers were dope AF. Pretty sure Serena is making EVERY bride reconsider what she wears on her feet the day of her wedding. Yes, the Louboutins, Manolo Blahniks and Jimmy Choos look amazing, they’re the shoes we all wish we could have worn for our weddings, but their more casj, yet comfortable counterparts are kind of the way to go.
Especially if you plan on jumping onstage with the band to belt out the lyrics to If It Isn’t Love…. No? Just Serena? Ohhhh. Well, just in case, we’ve rounded up some of the coolest bride-worthy sneakers on our radar right now.
And if you still want to step out in stilettos, go right ahead, but maybe do it with some edge and interpretation of your #somethingblue.
