Joe and Sophie Just Showed Us Why An E-Party is So Necessary
So, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are officially the cutest couple of all time. We’d be lying if we said we haven’t been stalking them since they announced their engagement last month. What else are we going to do while we wait for GoT to get back on air?
Well, while we don’t know much about wedding plans so far - we do know that the couple celebrated their nuptial news with dozens of their family and friends this past weekend. Ex-girlfriend Demi Lovato wasn’t in attendance, but she’s still wishing the couple well!
Starting out as a small, intimate dinner for about 30 or so of their closest cohorts at Mamo in NYC, the engagement festivities evolved into a damn good night of DNCE-ing and drinking to the guests of honor.
From his bros, Nick, Kevin and Frankie, to his boys, including his DNCE bandmate Cole Whittle, Ansel Elgort, Tom Holland, to name a few, Joe’s squad turned out and turned up in tribute to the newly-engaged groom-to-be and his red-headed fiancée. The black and white photobooth snaps, stamped with ‘Joe & Sophie’ and utterly-appro emojis were proof that a fun time was had by all.
I didn’t have an engagement party way back when, but Jo and So’s soiree has me wishingggg I had. Aside from peeping their pics and getting infinitely inspired, I’ve put together a few awesome reasons why an engagement party is the best thing ever.
It’s the first occasion to start dressing the part. Whether you want to break out your all-white wardrobe, or maybe just something a little extra-extra to make your look a bit more bridal, it’s completely your call! Sophie and Joe already have their bride and groom game on point. She wore a white silk blouse (with some cleavage, helloooo Soph, you smokeshow you) and black slacks with a vest and heels, he rocked a houndstooth suit. Such a power couple. You can be too ;)It’s the first time you can use your hashtag. Let’s be honest, once you have a ring on your finger, you probably can’t wait to start hyping your hashtag (if you’ve considered one, yet!). And your engagement party is the perfect place to roll it out, get feedback and tweak if necessary. Not sure if #jophie will be the official hashtag when Mr. Jonas and Ms. Turner tie the knot, but it’s sooo cute, if only used for their engagement party.
It’s a wonderful way to shut down any are-they-for-real rumors. Look, nooo one should be judging your decision to get married. When you know you’ve found the one, you just know. But for anyone who’s ever experienced some shade after getting engaged ‘only after dating xx months,’ you can hush any of the haters by inviting them to your bash and letting them bask in the afterglow of your love. Sure, Joe and Sophie have only been together a year, plus some, and yes, she’s young, but their connection is kismet. And all of their guests got a clear picture of their passion for each other.
It’s a great excuse to get your tribes to vibe. It def seemed like Joe and Sophie’s party was more friends-oriented than family, but it doesn’t matter, they still created an awesome event to get their crews together before their wedding. An engagement party is so key for this reason. You can have your families meet, you friends mix and mingle, and in doing so, you can help eliminate any tension that might have come later. Plus, once your people have spent some time together, you can already start planning out your wedding tables… it’s never too early.
It’s always a good idea to eat good food, drink delicious drinks and get OMG-thank-you gifts. Listen, you might be someone who hatesss getting attention (not me, but to each his own), but by having an engagement party, you’ll be getting lots of spotlight: best wishes, congratulatory hugs, tons of toasts, you get the picture. Why not enjoy the happy news of you getting ready to say I Do with the people you love most. Over some amazing food, spirits, shared memories and maybe a sweet gift or two (or three or four or five, #weregettingmarriedgiveusallthegifts). Joe, Sophie and their A-list entourage dined on truffle pizza and truffle raviolis, making sure their road to the altar was surely a scrumptious one.
