When you close your eyes and envision yourself on your honeymoon, what do you see? Romantic dinners? Your own personal assistant? A fascinating room with your own plunge pool? A complimentary mini bar with soft drinks? Flexible check in/out? If all of the above, then we for sure found your honeymoon destination. Cala de Mar in Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo is a dreamy resort you must dip your toes into. Fortunately we had the pleasure of Cala de Mar hosting us at their luxurious resort and giving us the royal treatment.
Cala de Mar is an award winning resort with unforgettable views, staff and gourmet food. Experiencing this resort first hand with my husband definitely left an everlasting impression.
While the room is enough to keep you there all day, there are a ton of activities the hotel has to offer. Yogis rejoice! Cala offers yoga classes + many forms of meditation on their yoga deck. After some mind-body cleansing we suggest heading over to the Spa El Capricho. The spa is a total mood. Whether you are feeling the dry sauna, whirlpools or color therapy steam rooms you are in for a total treat. For the best massage of your life, ask for Adrian and enjoy a warm cup of cinnamon tea or a fresh glass of cold hibiscus water!
At any moment of your stay, your dedicated personal assistant is only a phone call away to help you set up any other activities you might have in mind. You can partake in activities like kayaking, sailing, horseback riding, golfing or biking from Cala into the wild-life reserve. We recommend exploring the town, shopping, drinking and dining like locals. Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo is an untouched travel destination in Mexico. It's the perfect place for tourists who want an authentic and safe experience filled with beautiful beaches and the best food ever, but we will get more into that later. Driving through the lush green hills of the Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo coastline was like something out of a movie. With the Sierra Madre mountains on one side and white sandy-beaches on the other you are in the best of both worlds.
Can we go back to the food options at Cala really quick ... after coming back from a long day of adventure a candlelit private dinner in the privacy of your own terrace or at a unique location on the hotel's grounds is ALWAYS a good idea. If you are feeling a bit more social The Seafood Market was definitely a treat. Cooked on the spot, you are able to choose from local fish caught that day. Be sure to go early enough to catch the sunset. Ixtapa's night sky is like a kaleidoscope rotating with different shades of pink, blue, yellow, orange. #romantic.
Did we mention Cala de Mar can host your wedding? Cala de Mar offers group rates for your wedding guests staying at the hotel along with a wedding planner to guide you through all your wedding needs like flowers, music, photography and table decor! A wedding in Mexico is not complete without the music of Mariachis. You can request a proposal and learn more here. *Pro tip that might entice you a little more* ... Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo has its own international airport which means these pristine beaches are only a direct flight away! We did a little research and Alaska, American, United, Aeromexico, Delta and a few others are among the airlines who can deliver you to your ultimate wedding destination. For my LA brides flying out of LAX the flight was only three hours going and 2.5 hours coming back. Convenience at its finest!
