Wednesday, March 18, 2020 we got married! Due to COVID-19, our plans had to drastically change. The thought of having to replan an entire wedding for a later date was not something Eric and I wanted to do. What we wanted out of all of this was to be husband and wife. Within a matter of minutes we made the decision to elope. We informed our parents and even though we discouraged them traveling, they hopped on a plane and were in Phoenix 24 hours later to witness us exchange our vows.
The day of our wedding was non-traditional and perfect. It rained the day of, beginning minutes before our ceremony started, which is funny because we live in the desert. My seamstress worked OVERNIGHT to finish my dress in time, my florist created a stunning bouquet and boutonniere with only a single day's notice and delivered them to the courthouse minutes before the ceremony began. Our photographer met us at the courthouse and even came to our house after to document the rest of the evening!
Sure, we didn't have a DJ, a catered meal, 200 guests, or our bridal party as we originally planned. However, I think what we ended up having was even more special and intimate. It's important for people to remember the meaning behind a wedding and to never lose sight of its purpose. It's not about the wedding, it's the marriage.
