How to Make Sure Your Kisses Look Killer On Camera
I’ll be the first to admit that I hate having my picture taken. I used to be ALL about the selfie back in high school, when there wasn’t a word for it yet, but these days, I stay real far away from the camera. Just not about it. I’m sureee I have spirit animals out there who’d agree with me, right? But for wedding pictures, you kind of just have to suck it up and fake it till you make it, so that you don’t get your wedding album back months later and want to throw it in a fire (joking, but not really). And you’ll inevitably feel vulnerable again, when your photographer starts pushing the kissing pics. It’s awkward and tense, but it’s a wedding, so you know what your signed up for 😉. In any case, it’s International Kissing Day today, I got the reminder from Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams (who DO look amazing in all their kiss-kiss pics) - so, figured I’d find all the flawless photos I could of couples locking lips. These pairs give us hope that, we too, can smooch like pros when we need to. Because the couple who kisses great on camera, stays together.
((Side note, anyone else consider a killer kiss to be a prerequisite to epic wedding photos? We’re definitely believers)).
Anyhow, about those tips for making 👇 happen… we put together a few thoughts based on feedback from some of our favorite on-screen smoochers (our friends, of course) and tips we’ve heard from our photographer friends. Keep them in mind when you’re getting ready to pucker up!
Use your engagement session to figure out your best 😘 faces. If you can perfect your mwahs before you say ‘I Do,’ then you’ll be in a great shape for wedding day smack snaps.
Spend some time venturing down memory lane with your S.O. You have no idea what gems you can find from the early days in your relationship, when you probably took dozens of kiss pics in a single evening out - and memories of PDA-fueled fights with your friends to prove it. Those first uninhibited kisses together were probably photo gold. So, use them for inspo now!
If you’re prepping for your engagement shoot, choose a place with some built-in props. A beach (the ocean, waves, sand, and the like), a forest, the desert, etc. Even though you’re the ones in focus, you can kind of lose yourselves in the background a bit, and let the kisses come authentically. Consider this: If there’s a giant cactus over your heads, people will be staring at that, not your snogging, wink wink…
Snack on ‘cute food’ prior to your e-sesh and wedding ceremony. Pretty self-explanatory. If you’ve got fresh, cotton candy breath, you’ll ooze sticky sweetness in your pics. You don’t want to be eating anything that your partner has said, on numerous occasions, makes him/her disgusted.
Find some time before the camera starts clicking to grab each other and make out for a few. Kissing relaxes everyone / releases those endorphins. If you’re already feeling comfortable, you’ll be able to jump into the posing (kissing and not) calm, cool and collected.
And finally, if you’re really after those frame-worthy frenchers, then pretend that you’re one of your favorite celeb couples - George+Amal, John+Chrissy, Ashton+Mila, Justin+Jessica, Eric+Jessie, Kaley+Karl, to name a few, with ALL their Insta-famous pecks in mind - and fake it till you make it.
