In the days leading up to your wedding day, there's going to be a lot on your mind that you'll need to prepare for. If you have a wedding planner helping you, things will be a little easier, but there are still things like the rehearsal dinner, gathering family members and last minute arrangements to work on.
It’s easy to lose track of the small things when you’re focused on the big picture that will ensure the success of your wedding, but there’s something you can do to prepare yourself for your wedding day that will hardly take up any extra time at all.
Read on for a list of handy things every bride should keep with them on their wedding day. Mistakes happen, but when they do, you’ll be able to rest easy knowing that you have the solution packed and ready to go.
Every bridal show, movie and home video has a lot of happy crying in it, so you’re probably already prepared with tissues for your big day. Venues often have boxes ready as well, since most people in the bridal party will need one sooner or later.
Something that’s easy for brides to forget is a pack of Q-tips. Q-tips make it easier to touch up under and around your eyes if your makeup gets smudged. You can also use them with a little bit of nail polish remover to clean up the edges around your nails if a time or budget crunch prevents them from being professionally done.
Unless your wedding is going to be an early morning ceremony with lunch following right after, you should remember that there’s a reason everyone calls it a wedding day and not a wedding ceremony. Preparing for and enjoying your wedding is an all-day event, which means you’re going to be pushing through a good couple of hours to get to that reception dinner.
Have your bridesmaids or bridal party bring along a few snacks for the road. That way, everyone will be able to avoid hangry moods that could ruin your day. Take a survey of the people you’ll be around to make sure the snacks provided are safe for people with food allergies too.
Most brides hire a photographer to help capture the best moments of the day, but that also means someone tagging along with you wherever you go. Spilled wine and food are some of the most common stains removed from fabric. Don’t let an accidental splash of champagne ruin your wedding dress. Have a stain remover stick ready on the sidelines so that no outfit has to be saved in your photo albums as the one that got stained on your wedding day.
Your dress might just have a zipper up the back, but what about your reception dress or the outfits your bridal party will wear? Buttons pop and fabrics tear all the time, so get a small sewing kit to keep in your emergency bag. They don’t cost much, and they come with all the basics you’ll need to patch up a fashion mishap and continue on with your day.
It doesn’t matter if you’re having an indoor or outdoor celebration, you’re going to sweat a lot throughout your wedding day. You’ll have an undercurrent of excited and nervous emotions that will result in sweat, so don’t forget your deodorant at home. A quick reapplication before walking down the aisle or arriving for your reception will make you more comfortable and relaxed.
Sweat will also do some damage to your makeup, but getting the right foundation can help prevent your look from being dampened. Before your wedding, research and try out the best sweat proof foundations so that you know what works best for your skin. Whether it’s powder or liquid, the right foundation will boost your confidence because you’ll know you look your best for all your pictures.
Wedding venues do their best to be prepared for whatever you might need on your wedding day, but don’t count on them to have everything. Buy a pack of Band-Aids in case someone pricks their finger or stubs a toe. It’s better to be safe and have them stored away instead of risking potential blood stains on your outfits.
Some brides get their hair professionally done in a style that keeps it off their necks. Others do a simple loose curl style for their wedding day. However you want your hair done, it’s going to fall apart the longer the day goes on. To keep it looking pristine, take a small bottle of hairspray with you to your venue, or have your bridal party carry one. If you do, you can spray away when you feel stray hairs flying or curls straightening out.
As your wedding day goes on, you’ll have eaten food and enjoyed a few drinks that may make your breath go sour. Find a pack of mints to keep near you so that you can quickly use one to freshen your breath if needed. As a bonus, you won’t have to worry about finding a trash can to dispose of it when you’re done!
You’ve probably already put together a playlist or hired a DJ for your reception, but what about when you and your bridal party are getting ready for the ceremony? Spend some time with your friends to make the perfect wedding prep playlist so that you can get pumped together while you put on the last few finishing touches before walking down the aisle.
You can do your best to prepare for your wedding, but sometimes things happen that can’t be foreseen. Spilled drinks, hot temperatures and empty stomachs can be easily fixed with a few emergency items you can put in a separate bag. Even if you don’t end up using anything you brought, you’ll be glad to know you’re prepared and able to enjoy every minute of your big day!
