A “California Cool” Ranch Wedding With Custom Watercolor Details
From the very beginning, they knew they wanted to highlight the abundance of local food and flowers that the summer season brought. With a commitment to sustainability, they sourced all their blooms from local flower farms or foraged from the wild, ensuring the freshest and most beautiful arrangements by Fresh Coast Floral Co. To reduce waste, they rented or thrift shopped for many of their wedding items, including the stunning wedding gown that added a touch of whimsy to their special day.
On their wedding day, the weather couldn't have been more perfect, with clear skies and a shining sun. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, they exchanged vows beneath the canopy of two majestic willow trees, with a hexagon-shaped arch adorned with wildflowers, creating a mystical woodland setting straight out of a fairy tale.
Their chosen venue, A Matter of Taste at Tapawingo, perfectly embodied their nature-inspired wedding vision. Not only did it boast a breathtaking natural backdrop, but it also shared their values of using local ingredients for their in-house catering. To create a warm and ambient atmosphere, they incorporated beeswax candles made by Hilbert's Honey Co., a local beekeeper with a long-standing history in Northern Michigan.
The three-course dinner was a true celebration of local flavors. They savored individual charcuterie boards, a Lake Michigan Salad featuring house-grown lettuce and dried cherries, a beloved staple of Northern Michigan, and Parmesan Crusted Michigan Walleye with fresh, vibrant veggies from nearby Providence Organic Farm. For dessert, they indulged in lavender-tinted macarons and a semi-naked cake adorned with honeycomb and colorful florals, adding a sweet touch to their special day.
As the evening continued, they embarked on a whimsical adventure in a custom-built wooden rowboat adorned with wildflowers. The real-life couple, Amy and Kaleb, rowed out onto the serene lake, creating breathtaking photo opportunities that captured their adventurous spirit and the laid-back Up North vibes that they adore.
