The University of Southern California holds a VERY special place in this couple's hearts. Not only did it bring them together, but the bride's parents met there as well. They decided that there was no better place to celebrate their love story and rock their school spirit. The on-campus church hosted the ceremony and the reception was held in the school's ballroom. Cardinal and gold, the school's colors, were naturally incorporated into the wedding design as well.
Party Perfect, the wedding planning company founded by the bride's mother, took care of designing and planning the entire affair, and they pulled out all the stops. The florals by Nisie's Enchanted Florist were beautifully timeless, especially the bride's cascading bouquet. These rich photos by Jim Kennedy Photographers capture every special moment, including the tear-jerking father and daughter dance to a Disney classic. Keep reading to hear more from the bride, Riannon Trutanich, about how everything came together. You can see all of the photos from this wedding in the full gallery.
Riannon and Clinton met as students at the University of Southern California. While on a trip to Paris in October 2018, Clinton proposed at the Terrass hotel in Montmartre on its rooftop restaurant overlooking the City of Light! The couple knew they wanted a wedding unique and personal to them, so they chose the Town and Gown Ballroom on the University of Southern California’s campus. USC is not only the place that brought them together, but the bride's parents met there as well, 45 years prior. The bride's mother has been a wedding planner for over 35 years, so Riannon grew up around weddings. She spent early mornings at the Los Angeles Flower Market with her mom before she could even walk—let alone tell the difference between a rose and a ranunculus. As an adult, she has worked for her mom countless times as an event assistant. Wedding planning is in her blood, so you could say she was more than a little excited to plan her own!
March 28, 2020, was the date Riannon and Clinton had chosen to become man and wife—never imagining that only two short weeks before, the wedding would have to be postponed due to the pandemic. Through 19 months of trials and tribulations, while in the midst of Zoom and micro weddings, Riannon and Clinton held onto their dream of a formal church ceremony and reception. While the wait and uncertainty were challenging at times, it turns out good things do come to those who wait! On Saturday, October 16, 2021, Riannon and Clinton were finally able to have the wedding of their dreams! The couple was married at Our Savior Parish Catholic Church in the USC Caruso Catholic Center near the university. They opted to forego a first look, choosing to see each other for the first time when Riannon walked down the aisle on her father’s arm. It was an unforgettable moment as the sun shone through the stained-glass windows onto the beaming bride and the groom's eyes filled with tears! Following the ceremony, the wedding party—complete with the mutt of honor, Popeye, (the bride's dog)—took photos on campus in many of the places that held fond memories of the couple’s college years. Meanwhile, guests enjoyed the cocktail hour in Town and Gown’s beautiful walled garden while finding their names and tables (that were named after campus landmarks) attached to pom poms in USC’s colors of cardinal and gold.
Once everyone was seated for dinner, to get the party started in true Trojan fashion, the USC Marching Band burst into the ballroom playing the school’s fight song. After an amazing performance by the band, the dance floor cleared and the bride and groom danced their first dance as the newly wed Mr. and Mrs. VanSciver! The highlight of the delectable five-course meal was definitely when the father of the bride asked his one and only daughter to join him for the traditional father-daughter dance. As Riannon danced with her dad to “Tale As Old As Time" from Beauty and the Beast, a full-size movie screen appeared from the ceiling behind them playing a home video of the bride at two years old dancing with her dad to that same song! Needless to say, there was not a dry eye in the ballroom.
As weddings often do, the wedding of Riannon Trutanich and Clinton VanSciver was a magical day surpassing all of their wildest dreams. It was definitely a fairytale come true…just one that took a little longer than most! Remember to enjoy the journey of wedding planning. The wedding is one day but all the moments leading up to the big day are special!
