Christine and Josh met when they were out with friends one evening in the popular Commercial Historic District of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Josh was playing table pool, and he and Christine couldn’t stop staring at each other from across the room. Eventually, Christine and her entourage approached Josh’s group and the two spent as much time together as they could from that night on. They both agree that it was love at first sight! Their late-winter wedding day was refreshingly crisp and inspired by the juxtaposition of the onset of early spring. Christine and Josh’s formal affair was elevated by all the playful, romantic vibes, especially with their love of science fiction, and a reception illuminated by a sea of candlelight. The groom and his men were in suits accented with yellow ties to match the floral arrangements. Christine wore a glamorous dress from Lulu's with skinny mesh straps that fell to a plunging, sheer mesh bodice. The straps and bodice were artfully decorated in rhinestones, sequins and iridescent beads, with the high waist falling into a Georgette maxi skirt.
“I was really excited about their love of science fiction and how they incorporated that into their wedding. They had these incredible custom posters made with Christine and Josh as the science-fiction characters. They had even had science-fiction scenes projected above the dance floor all night and it was all super cool,” their photographer, Danielle Green with L A Y E R S says.
Rose Of Sharon Floral Design Studio based the couple’s color palette on a special request from Christine. She wanted yellow roses as a prominent feature because her parents had also incorporated yellow roses into their wedding day. The overall floral event design was based around the head table. Christine and Josh knew they wanted a show-stopping statement piece that would be seen as soon as guests entered the room... Not to mention that the early spring date called for some early spring flowers. Faux forsythia mixed with greenery added that early spring touch. All of the other arrangements, from the centerpieces to the bouquets, were designed to compliment this piece. Christine recalls, “My favorite memory of looking at the flowers was actually on the day after the wedding. Things weren't moving at that day-of high speed and I could take time to enjoy the arrangements before we carried them away. At the time my husband was working for a senior living community and they were able to be donated for their enjoyment.”
1. To accomplish the design for an early spring, yet moody end-of-winter wedding vibe, keep that juxtaposition in mind by utilizing solid linens and straight lines in an effort not to overwhelm the eyes.
2. Add small, personal touches that feel special to the couple for a more interesting wedding day story.
3. If your reception space does not accommodate both your ceremony and reception without a huge room flip, rent a second venue nearby to avoid complications with logistics.
