Their Love Story
Our love story began online - just like most relationships these days. It was 2017 and I was perusing the Indian dating website - Shaadi.com, which translates directly to Wedding.com. If that’s not straightforward, I don’t know what is. Online dating comes with many caveats - you want to find someone with a witty bio, yet someone who is serious. You look for someone that is family-centric, yet independent, someone who is smart and attractive, yet someone who knows how to relax and be carefree. There’s a hard balance to strike and you somehow are supposed to find the perfect partner (and sell yourself!) in a few paragraphs and a handful of photos.
When I found Dru’s profile on shaadi.com – there were two major things he wrote in his bio that stood out. First, he had written “family is the most important thing in my life and I would do anything for them.” Second, was that he was born and raised in London – I thought he would have that dreamy British accent most Americans can’t get enough of. I was sold - I clicked on his profile and sent my “request” to him - indicating that I was interested
Not before long, we were exchanging lengthy emails, then texts, then we scheduled our first phone call. Much to my surprise, Dru had a hybrid of a English and American accent. It was cute and I was hooked. We would talk for days upon days, hours upon hours. It turned out that there were many more qualities that Dru had that he did not put into his profile; it wasn’t before long that I had realized that I had met my future husband.
Wedding Planning
The next few months were a whirlwind of trips where Dru visited me in Minnesota and I visited him in California. We had both fallen for each other in a short amount of time and we didn’t want to waste any more time apart. We both spoke to our families - letting them know that we had found “the one.” We met each others’ parents and siblings, we met each others’ friends and we had engrained ourselves in one another’s life. Eight months after we connected with each other online - we were engaged.
We spent the next year and a half planning our dream wedding. Everything about that weekend came together beautifully and we continually look back on that special day - reminiscing about every detail. Our love story was short and sweet, but our life together has been full of love and admiration for each other.
