Alison and Michael knew they wanted to have a destination wedding. Their vision was to host a fun, light-hearted celebration inspired by the Aloha spirit, with their families and closest friends. Maui has been a special place for the bride's family for three generations. Her grandfather started going to Maui in the sixties; she made her first trip when she was only a month old, with more recent trips including her husband. These two followed their hearts and got happily Maui'd in Hawaii!
To create a classic and tropical feel for their event they kept the decor simple and let nature and gorgeous floral arrangements do the work. Their venue, Olowalu Plantation House, is a charming property on Maui's west side just steps from the beach. We can't get over how gorgeous the whole thing is! From Belle Destination Weddings & Events: Alison and Michael are from the San Francisco Bay Area and they've been visiting Maui for years and years. They came out to Maui once for a pre-planning trip with the Alison's parents and were able to book their venue, the Olowalu Plantation House on Maui's western shore, meet with their florist, Bella Bloom, and do a couple of tastings. They secured their own Rabi, a close family friend and were married under a Talit, which has been in their family for EVER, it was one of the only surviving pieces of a synagogue that was burned in the Holocaust. I think every family member of theirs has been married under it for a really, really long time.
From the bride: How we met: Michael and I met at work where we developed a very close friendship which later led to a loving relationship. Michael proposed to me while we were hiking in one of our favorite spots—Tiburon open space, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. It was perfect! My favorite memory was the signing of the Ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract. Together with our immediate families and our Rabbi, we gathered in an intimate setting and carried on a centuries-old tradition. My advice for brides planning now? Savor every moment on your big day, it'll be over in the blink of an eye!
