As soon as Chet and Kristian got engaged, they knew they didn't want a "normal" wedding. This adorably quirky couple from Savannah love Star Wars, legos, and...skydiving! Usually, everyone holds their breath as they watch the bride walk down the aisle, but at this wedding, it was the groom who got to make the grand entrance. He literally jumped out of a plane (with his groomsmen!) and parachuted down to the ceremony below!
Elegant Savannah Weddings had a lot of logistics to consider when planning this non-traditional wedding. The hardest task had to be finding a venue that could accommodate a skydiving groom and The Copper Barn delivered! The bride is a floral designer and her company, Kristian Designs, created all of these gorgeous floral arrangements that you'll see throughout. Lahmann Photo Co, their photographer, and Lahmann Film Co, their videographer followed the groom up in the plane and really went ABOVE and beyond for this wedding. A skydiving groom, a ceremony aisle made of vintage rugs, a dried floral bouquet, a rust color palette, two untraditional cakes (one made entirely of fresh fruit, one made of warm Belgian waffles), Star Wars details, a cannabis bar at the reception...need we go on? Kristian and Chet's day was a quintessential unique wedding full of details that were so perfectly them–and we're truly obsessed.
Chet and I met in 2018 and not long after, in January of 2019, we started dating. When we met, we instantly felt something special. We were on a boat in Savannah for a Christmas party and just so happened to sit across the table from each other. I went into his DMs on Instagram and sent him my number sitting across the table from him. Not even a year into dating, we got engaged at Helen's New Year's party a few seconds from the ball dropping!
Chet is a Network Engineer by day but on the weekends he is a professional skydiver, so we knew we wanted to incorporate his love for skydiving on our big day. I own a wedding and event floral company, Kristian Designs. With this comes attending and seeing many different weddings, styles, colors, etc. I always tell my brides, there are NO RULES to a wedding, make it your own. We both knew we wanted our wedding to reflect us as a couple–non-traditional, nerdy, and fun! The first thing to pop into our heads was to have Chet and his groomsmen skydive into our wedding. This was a lot to put together and made our venue choice a huge player in making this happen. The other thing that was super important to us was the flowers, of course, because of my line of work, so I just had to do all of the flowers for our wedding!
We both have a love for Star Wars and wanted to incorporate this in a more sophisticated way with the accents of velvet linens and industrial centerpieces, and we added pops of Star Wars and Lego figurines. We knew we didn't want cake because neither of us really eat it, so why not do some of our favorite snacks?! My “cake” consisted of waffles because of my love for breakfast foods, and Chet's groom's “cake” was made entirely out of watermelon. It was honestly one of the coolest “cakes” I have ever seen! We truly loved every aspect of our wedding day–the vendors, waffles, pizza food truck, CBD bar, puppy conga line…the list could go on and on! We had the best day and we made it OUR OWN, in every way. There are no rules! We would relive this day a million times over! Married life is truly a dream and I am so happy I get to spend it with my very best friend. BEST. DAY. EVER!
