Jenn and Steven have a unique life ahead of them as they plan to move to Thailand after their wedding.
So, when planning their big day they wanted to design a wedding that would celebrate their new life together, as well as thank those that have helped them along their way. Their teal and gold modern wedding was beautifully captured by Sam Hugh Photography and you can see even more of it by visiting the full gallery here.
From the Bride: I like to joke that my wedding was gifted to me. In over our heads, Steven and I had no idea how to plan a wedding or even where to begin, especially as we were in the midst of transitioning jobs and countries in the coming year.
Our community came to our rescue. A childhood mentor became my wedding planner while another served as my florist. Some of our best friends were our invitation designers, decorative geniuses, live band, program creator, dress consultants, and hand/tissue holders. In fact, so much of our wedding was outsourced that I only had a vague idea of how everything would look the day of because everyone wanted their parts to be a surprise!
The wedding was uniquely us, which just reveals how much our friends knew and loved us. It was shiny and fun, with a little whimsy from our love of The Little Prince. We had a table dedicated to our future plans of serving God in Thailand where our guests wrote us encouragements and prayers on a map of the world.
When Nita, our fantastic wedding planner, asked us what we wanted our guests to feel at the end of the day, we immediately replied, "blessed." For us, the people are the most beautiful part of weddings, and we wanted to showcase that by serving our guests as much as possible. With our enthusiastic crowd, exuberant wedding toasts that transitioned us perfectly into an amazing dance floor, fire pits, ridiculously yummy food, and a beautiful open venue, I think we did a pretty good job.
For all you new bride-to-bes, don't stress out! There is so much joy in marriage coming your way -- you don't want to lose that big picture in all the details. If you have good people around you, which you do, then it's going to be a wonderful day!
Getting to dance with Steven, my new husband (still weird to say the word!), during our first dance was a particularly happy moment. Historically opposed to getting on the dance floor, Steven asked to learn and practiced long hours to get the steps just right and indulge my love of ballroom.
