Vermont Wedding: Stress-Free Planning & DIY Ideas

Bride and groom forehead to forehead on wedding day

Take your time... This is a small bit of wisdom that this morning's bride would like to impart on all who are planning their own big days. Her gorgeous Vermont wedding day at West Mountain Inn was the product of a little over two years of planning. Yes, two years! We were skeptical about the need for such a lengthy engagement too, until she mentioned how little stress she encountered while planning. The lack of anxiety was evident as the whole day appeared to flow like a dream filled with beautiful weather, personalized DIY elements, and not a worry wrinkle in sight.

From the Bride:If I could give advice to future brides it would be to know what you want and to go with your gut. Right from the beginning, I had an idea in my head of how I wanted the day to look and feel. After that, I set out finding vendors that I trusted that would get us to that place. We had a very long engagement (2+ years), but when we found a vendor we liked, we booked them right away without hesitation even if it was more than 2 years out. We never had to worry about a vendor we wanted not having availability -  and that certainly helped with managing stress levels.

Also, remember to take a second to breathe! Planning a wedding is stressful. Emotions from everyone run high, and with that there is bound to be some drama. Take a step back, and remember what's important: you get to marry your best friend. That's what really matters.

From Dreamlove Photography:For the DIY-loving bride, this wedding had lots of great ideas… but our favorite was Cate's unique combination guest favors and escort table idea. She gave antique glass vases away as guest favors, but also tied a vintage luggage tag to each vase with guest’s names and table description. Pure genius….saved tons of space, and was budget-friendly. The table itself also looked like a work of art. Sand and river stones were used to create a rustic landscape for all of the vases, and guests were drawn to that table instantly when walking into the barn.

From the Bride:When Dave and I set out on planning our wedding, our main goal was to assemble all of the people that were closest to us in one, beautiful place and throw a really awesome party. There were many ups and downs of wedding planning, but in the end, when the day finally came - that was exactly what we did. When I think about the wedding, I remember everyone happy, smiling, and really giving it their all on the dance floor. It was perfect. Finally being married is pretty great too.
