From the bride: My husband David and I are both California natives, and met in college in Dallas, Texas. We truly consider each other as best friends and soul mates, and have developed a mutual love for the natural beauty of California, especially wine country! We have the same style, which we'd term as "rustic elegance" (think chandeliers and reclaimed wood). After many visits taking in the gorgeous rolling golden hills, rows of grape vines, and majestic oak trees of Santa Barbara county's wine country, we realized it was the dream background for our wedding because it encompassed our vision and already held so many fond memories for us.
We searched for winery venues in the area and chose Firestone due to the amazing view from the mesa (where we said our vows), their candle-lit barrel room for the cocktail hour, and the enchanting courtyard where we had dinner and danced the night away. We liked the idea of having three unique experiences, all at the same property.
We were lucky to find an excellent planner, Shauna Timmons of Alegria by Design, who specialized in the area and understood our vision completely. We couldn't have done it without her! Our vision of soft pinks, greys and natural elements (such as olive leaves and flower garlands) was reflected in the muted pink bridesmaids dresses by BHLDN and grey suits that went perfectly with the reclaimed wood look of our décor. My traditional Alvina Valenta dress added a formality, which contrasted the natural beauty of the outdoor ceremony site.
We also wanted to add a few unique stand-out elements. So, our coordinator Shauna suggested crystal chandeliers, which hung above the reclaimed wood tables and gave a romantic feel to our reception, as well as market lights, which were strung through the barrel room. We also rented a trolley to bring the guests to the mesa lawn prior to the ceremony, and served champagne along with fruit-infused beverages before the wedding.
