One thing we both knew right away was that we wanted the wedding to in Tucson. Not only was it where we met and where we have such wonderful memories together, it is where I grew up and where my parents still live so it has a very special place in both our hearts. This meant that our wedding would be a mostly destination wedding for our guests, with RJ’s family from Chicago, the rest of my family from the east coast and many friends from California. When we saw the beautifully renovated Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in the foothills of Tucson we knew we had found the perfect location for our wedding. From the stunning mountain views, the gorgeous ceremony site, the comfortable rooms and the many amenities, we knew our guests would be able to come and have a truly wonderful weekend getaway, which was so important to us.
We had some incredibly meaningful details that we incorporated through out our wedding day. I carried my grandmother’s wedding purse that she carried on her wedding day, a gift she gave me at my bridal shower. For my something borrowed my aunt let me wear a beautiful pearl bracelet with a ballet shoe charm that belonged to my beloved and late Nana, given to her by my late grandfather. I also wore her mother’s (my great-grandmother’s) wedding band on my right ring finger, which was passed down to me after I became engaged. Another detail that was very thoughtful were the Polaroid photos my sister was taking throughout the evening.
After the ceremony we had an outdoor cocktail hour with the sky lit up with the most vibrant sunset and the bistro lights Meagan and her team had incorporated into the space. From the cocktail hour the small ballroom off the patio opened up for dinner and dancing and we brought the outdoors in by continuing the bistro lights and the same greenery and white floral. We also kept it romantic with tons of candles on the tables both outdoors and in. After dinner we kept the night going with a Photo Booth and a Frost Gelato cart, which were both thoroughly enjoyed by our guests! Lounge furniture on the patio created a welcoming spot for our guests to take a break from dancing and enjoy the perfect weather and the star filled Arizona sky. We had a surprise last song, as any U of A Wildcat will tell you that you know the night is over at Dirtbags, the local college bar, when Sweet Caroline comes on, so that is how we ended the reception. It was a sweet and nostalgic ending to the best night of our lives.
