Mexican Chic Wedding: Rain Couldn’t Dampen This Stunning Celebration
Britni knew from the beginning that she wanted influences of her Mexican heritage infused in her wedding; she called it Mexican Chic. Britni and Brandon live on the complete opposite ends of the country from their beautiful venue. Planning from a distance always makes things a bit harder, but Scheme Events helped ensure that the day turned out absolutely perfect! Despite the distance and angry rain clouds on the day of, this wedding is an absolute stunner that might just leave you reeling. A little rain, a lot of luck
When the wedding day arrived, it was with thick black clouds threatening rain. And not just a light sprinkle or shower of a few drops–these clouds meant serious rain business. It was touch and go throughout the day if this all outdoor wedding would need to be moved inside to a backup location. It hurt my designer heart to think of all these gorgeous details hooded in a room with a ceiling instead of floating in the sky as intended. The evening was set to end at 11:00. As if on cue, the clouds grumbled, rumbled and tumbled and the rain gods p.o.u.r.e.d. down as The Lumineers crooned “Hey Ho.” After a few minutes hugging and dancing in the rain, the guests ran to covering to stay dry if possible. You may know the legend that rain on your wedding day brings good luck–if a rain:luck ratio exists I would say Britni & Brandon are due bucketloads of luck!
guestbook piñata
The guest book was a heart shaped piñata with the letters B&B on it. Guests wrote notes, messages and advice on cards and placed them in the piñata. On their one year anniversary, Britni and Brandon will crack the pinata and read the messages inside. The wedding ceremony was held in a garden arboretum with scalloped papel picado banners floating overhead. The bridesmaids wore coral dresses and each had a different specialty bouquet. As the ceremony ended, a mariachi band led guests from ceremony to cocktail hour. The centerpieces at cocktail hour were personalized banderitas (paper flags) in peach and white that were customized with Britni & Brandon's names and wedding date.

For escort cards, we used mint and coral maracas with guests seating assignments added to a tag. As the new Mr. & Mrs. entered the reception the courtyard was filled with shaking maracas!
Sangria & Nattyboh
The reception was a mix of round tables with peach linen and colorful centerpieces. Long wooden tables with a lace runner and arrangements of cactus, succulents and floral. The floral arrangements even included fresh peppers to keep things spicy! The papel picado banners were also used in the reception in lines of alternating bistro lights. To flow with the Mexican theme, a specialty sangria cocktail was served along with custom cocktail napkins. The napkins featured Nattyboh, the popular Baltimore icon. In this case, Nattyboh was sporting a festive sombrero to go with the theme of the wedding. The idea was created when Brandon posted a photo of this Latin inspired Nattyboh on Instagram and the wedding planner turned it into a fun detail on the wedding day.
