From the Bride:Josh and I wanted an intimate gathering of close family and friends. We envisioned a very relaxed and laid-back wedding with details that reflected who we are and what we value - our faith, family, friends, community, and the environment. Since we both work for not-for-profit organizations, it was only natural to support other not-for-profits and give back to the community.
While looking for venues, we wanted a space to be used for both the ceremony and reception. We love open spaces, natural lighting, and fresh air. When we came across the Old Davie School Historical Museum, we fell in love with the large windows and hardwood floors. It was a beautiful venue, and we would be supporting a local historical mission! Not only did we want to support not-for-profits, but also small businesses and artists.
Most of the items used for our wedding were DIY projects or found on Etsy. My wedding dress was custom made by a dressmaker I found on Etsy, the honey used for the favors were purchased directly from a farm, all of our vendors were from surrounding areas, etc. The best part of the wedding besides being surrounded by loved ones from near and far was donating our flowers post-wedding to VITAS Hospice Care in memory of my late grandmother via Petals with Purpose. We didn't want anything to go to waste, including the flowers.
I definitely appreciated bride's that were willing to share their budgets, and it became a great resource while planning. So, I would love to help other bride's, too!
