Say aloe to this chic plant filled wedding fit for a boho queen! The beautiful bride wanted to focus the decor on what she loved most and used eco-friendly potted plants, greenery garlands and lots of cute DIY details throughout.
We're dying over her dreamy ceremony backdrop which used to be a store display at one of our favorite places to shop, Free People! Full of creativity and love, keep scrolling to read more about her inspiration and DIY projects below. Plus find more pin-worthy moments from Dash Photography in the fully gallery.
From the bride: At the time we started planning, we had actually been engaged for 4 years already, so we had PLENTY of time to think about what we wanted. We have a son, Levi, so all the wedding crafting happened during his naps. There were countless hours spent on Pinterest and Instagram researching styles, flowers, wedding dresses, vendors, and overall “wedding themes”. I wanted our wedding to represent who we were as a couple and of course, to reflect my personal style. A lot of people would say my style is “boho chic” or sometimes “hippie and natural"…to which I would all say are pretty spot on!
We decided to have our wedding in my parent's backyard. They have a beautiful pool with a waterfall, and they even let me pick out the foliage and flowers for the backyard! We planted beautiful red and pink caladium, echinacea, portulaca, large cacti, and so much more. I brought my plants from home, and I used a giant staghorn fern for the center piece at the alter. The whole house was full of people and happiness, and all the things I love!
I worked for Free People for a few years, and I bought almost all the store displays to use for the wedding decorations. For the alter, I used two beautiful panels that were canvas meets burlap meets lace material, with a sort of scalloped edge embellished with mirror pieces. They also had these long tails of cotton thread and sparkles…UGH, TO DIE FOR! I love the way the photos came out. I saved a ton of money that way, and it was super unique and amazing!
Two things about me: I LOVE PLANTS, and I do tons of DIY, and also make jewelry! I focused on what I love and made sure to go 100% with my theme! I decided on some amazing DIY flower cones and herb seed favors ideas. I bought an old Webster’s dictionary for .99 at Goodwill and ripped out pages (which happened to have the cutest pictures on them). The flower cones were filled with petals that guests tossed as we walked down the isle as husband and wife. I created envelopes, and filled with different herb seeds then hand-stamped which herb the guest was receiving for their favor.
My advice to current brides is don’t be afraid to commit to YOUR style. Run with it. That is what made my day so special. I put my touch on every single detail. I wasn’t worried that my wedding was too different or not enough like the others. I didn't care that I wasn’t wearing diamonds and stilettos. I wore sterling silver and turquoise (original pieces), and Free People blush colored booties. I totally wear them all the time after the wedding. If you have a vision, make it come to life by being authentic and true to your style! Also one BIG piece of advice I would give is to hire a wedding planner! I wouldn’t have even had a wedding without Kristi from Coco Red Events. Most of all, HAVE FUN!
