Gina and Chad’s destination wedding in Lake Lure, NC, was on July 24, 2014. They are from Florida, and they traveled to Western North Carolina for their destination wedding surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Gina, Chad and their families rented a huge cabin where they held their wedding reception, and it was such a gorgeous evening!
Gina designed their wedding reception and created all of the details, from the gold candlesticks to the lace table runners, centerpieces, and lovely gold and white accents. Her wedding gown was by Tatyana Merenyuk, and she wore jewelry from her own company, Gilded Honey. Gina is the co-owner of Gilded Honey, and her classy style was reflected throughout every aspect of their wedding.
At their reception, there were cafe lights strung from the cabin to the s'mores fire pit and they danced and mingled under the stars. At the end of the night, everyone released lighted balloons with handwritten messages attached to the balloon asking anyone who finds the messages to email Gina and Chad.
Inspiration Behind the lake...
My family was planning a lake vacation and they mentioned to us “Why don’t you get married at the lake!” With 4-months before the wedding and never even seeing the house we started the planning process. We wanted it to be an intimate wedding with only family and a few close friends. Since we were on vacation it was a week of fun for guests and family. When choosing the feel for our wedding we wanted the feeling of a romantic lake party drizzled with gilded glam. As a graphic designer, I designed all the details of the wedding, from the invitations to the monogrammed tumbler gifts. One of my favorite aspects of the wedding were the S’more Bar and the Cigar and Bourbon Bar.
If I could do something differently…
My husband and I decided that we wanted to write our own vows for our wedding day. We wanted our wedding to feel very intimate while not sparing any memorable detail. However, in the whirlwind leading up to the day, I completely forgot to transfer my vows from my google drive to a pretty handwritten piece of paper. So, as I walked down the aisle with my bouquet in hand I also had an added item, my iphone. With that being said, it ended up being a funny, memorable moment and I'm so happy we chose to write our own vows, I just wished I had taken the time to transfer it from my google drive to paper.
The Wedding Budget...
Our wedding included many DIY projects from the bouquet and decor to the invitations and jewelry. Gold spray paint was my best friend for the 4 months leading up to the wedding. We made many trips to thrifts stores where we would search for decor pieces to transform. For our flowers we decided to order online through Fiftyflowers and create our own centerpieces, flower crowns, and bouquet.
Being from an italian family food was a necessity (lots of it!) and catering was one the areas we SPLURGED in. Since it was a small wedding, we wanted our family and friends to be involved in the entire day. The day started with homemade omelets, fresh pastries, local fruits, and bottomless mimosas and it ended with the a 4-course dinner that included antipastas, caprese salad, ravioli, trout and, of course, cannolis.
