Romantic Highland Springs Resort Wedding with DIY Decor & Oak Tree Vows

Newlyweds holding hands in front of a green wall, wedding portrait

From the moment Kyle and Megan saw the 1000 year old oak tree at Highland Springs Resort, they knew that this was where they  would say their vows. The history of Highland Springs Resort created an environment that was relaxed, while still feeling profoundly important.
This Inland Empire resort in California  inspired the naturalistic decor. Most of which was DIY projects of the bride. Keep reading for some awesome wedding ideas and see more of this relaxing and rainy California wedding in the full gallery here, captured by Iris and Light.

Get Read In Style

Megan made the cutest personalized rompers for each of her bridesmaids to get ready in. The enjoyed the whole process while sipping on vintage tea cups that let everyone know what their beverage of choice was. It really does not get cuter than this.

DIY Floral Arrangements

One huge projects that we decided to do was to assemble all of the flower arrangements and bouquets. We wanted arrangements that were organic looking and spent the two days prior to the wedding assembling all the flowers. We used ferns, Queen Anne’s lace and proteas as our main flowers. The king protea was special to me because I had studied abroad in South Africa where the king protea is the country's flower. Other DIY projects included the moss table numbers, the photo booth backdrop, the hand stamped library cards for the seating chart, and the air plant gifts for our guests. All of these projects created more opportunities to be around the ones that we love. At a time that is typically hectic and overwhelming, I felt as though the love, support, and hard work from our family and friends kept us not only sane, but overjoyed.

Gift and re-purpose furniture and decor

Somehow the rain stopped just before our ceremony and I will never forget walking down the aisle with my father to Kyle standing under the oak tree. Our ceremony site was right next to a pen of sheep that were vocal through much of the ceremony which also eased our nerves.

We each wrote our own vows and as we read them in front of our loved ones, everything became real. We will never forget the love that we felt under that oak tree. We spent a lot of time searching for antique pieces that we could use at our wedding as well as in our home. We scoured flea markets and antique shops for a year looking for pieces that are aesthetically fitting and within our price range. Now we have many of these pieces in our home and we gave away others as gifts to those who helped us so much.
