From the bride: We had 3 months to plan our wedding and this actually worked in our favor more than against. It forced us to not dwell on decisions and it also helped contain the amount of projects we took on or wanted to do. Even at the end of the 3 months, I got a little exhausted of thinking of things. So my advise would be to not have a year long engagement. Just do it. Maybe 3 months was a little tight - especially with having time to find a dress, but beyond 6 months would have been too much time.
Spend time finding THE dress. I had a couple of changes with my dress..it was originally straight across the top. I felt a little pressured to find a dress in the amount of time we had between getting engaged and our wedding. If I could do it again I would have spent a little more time finding a dress I didn't need to get altered outside of it's fit.
Book your photographer early and make sure they know about any photos that you have to have. Also, spend time on your DJ list. After picking all the other music, I was so burnt out on music that I maybe listed 5 songs I liked to the DJ - I should have spend more time making sure we got everything we wanted.
