Organic Laid-back Wedding with Lots of DIY Inspiration

Bride and groom pose with puppy at lakeside wedding

When this bride shared her photos from her August 11th, 2018 wedding – we had one of those MAJOR ‘I wish this was my wedding!’ moments. When asking about the details for her wedding, we were surprised to find out that this absolutely gorgeous day was very much DIY.

The couple, being the down-to-earth couple they are, wanted an intimate, earthy, laid-back ceremony and reception with all the people who meant the world to them. And of course, needed everything to be dog-friendly (or in their case, adorable-little-golden-retriever-lab-puppy-friendly). They wanted their day to be about celebrating their love, and that was it. So they planned everything to be organic and fuss-free. Keep scrolling to see it all unfold below, and when you're ready for a closer look from Blake Hunter Photography visit the full gallery

the perfect details

Besides an amazingly talented photographer (Blake Hunter Photography), a delicious-looking cake (Alicia’s Sugar Shack), the bride's Goddess By Nature Angelina gown purchased at The Bridal Vault, and some (groomsmen, take notes) custom-made suspenders from Whiskey Thieves, the rest of the wedding was pretty much curated by the couple and their family and friends.

DIY done right

For the venue, they rented a cabin in Mammoth, California. Surrounded by breathtaking mountains and natural landscapes, these two got hitched right in the backyard. They made their own BBQ style food, grabbed flowers from the local farmers market and played their own music to dance to all night long. All of this sounds good to us!

Budget Breakdown

From the bride:

Cake: Alicia’s Sugar Shack $140, we picked the cake up the day before and then put our own flowers on it.

Food: a family friend and cook prepped food for 3 meals for all of our guests (dinner night before, breakfast day of, and reception dinner) which was $1000, and then we cooked it all when we got there.

Photos: Blake Hunter $1500

Flowers: Farmers market $50 we made the bouquets and flower crown day of while sipping mimosas.

Cabin: We rented through VRBO for two nights, and our entire wedding party and us stayed there. Our families rented smaller cabins close by, and we did the ceremony and reception in the backyard. That was $2000.

Our gifts to our wedding party were the girl's robes to get ready in by ThreeTwo1 on Etsy. $22 a piece. And suspenders by Whiskey Thieves $60 a piece.

Our alter: my stepdad, who was also the person who married us, gathered the wood from our backyard and made it, and then we got the macrame hanging from TheHousePhoenix on Etsy for $210. We have the macrame hanging in our room now, so win/win!

Personalized bridesmaid flutes: Cambridge Avenue on Etsy $9 a piece.

My robe to get ready in was from Plum Pretty Sugar. I use it every day now!

I got my necklaces from Shopevren on Etsy, super simple pieces that I wear all the time now. $75 for both. I wanted pieces that I would use after our big day so spending money on them wouldn’t feel so wasteful.

Our pup had a bow tie from Pawswithstyle on Etsy $6
