You From the Bride: On a weekend trip to Asheville, North Carolina, Garrett and I had a late brunch. We hadn't been on a trip in years because at the time we had a 2 year old and an 8 month baby boy. We managed to escape our parental duties for a short weekend.
After brunch I saw a vintage shop in the near distance and begged him to take a look with me. I love thrifting! I love nicknacks, throw pillows, and art. But this time was different. As I explored the racks, I found MY DRESS. I pulled it down and ran into the dressing room. I had to have him zip me up. As most men do he ran in, zipped me, and ran out. I looked in the mirror and thought how this dress just fit me like a glove. It was my dream dress. 70s vintage, lace bell sleeves. And the kicker, it was priced at $45. I yelled out to Garrett, "I'm going to marry you in this dress". Little did I know we would be engaged 2 days later.
When it came down to start planning I was just thrilled to start crafting. I wanted it to be a laid back bohemian wedding. I dreamed of a mixture of colors and wildflowers. Mismatched centerpieces that we collected over months centered the tables. Lots of greenery would be draped over the tables and the fabulous fireplaces within the venue. I enlisted the job of florist to my stepmother Sandra Hinds, a wonderful freelance floral designer.
My mother in law constructed this cake over a weeks time, layer by layer. It's my favorite recipe that she often makes for my birthday. The Waldorf Astoria Red Velvet, so delicious and given a red color on the inside by beets instead of food coloring. She added left over flower from the florist to top it off.
