When these two Hollywood professionals decided to tie the knot, they knew that a traditional wedding just wasn't for them. They looked to their favorite classic movies for inspiration, but something was missing in the black and white...COLOR (and lots of it)! This wedding is a neon technicolor dreamscape with nods to film noir and 80s fashion moments. In keeping with the theme, this couple incorporated lots of custom details like a movie poster invite featuring the couple themselves and custom coasters that spoke to each of their guests' favorite movies. 

They trusted Crosby + Jon with their vision and they ran with it! From the bright magenta and fuchsia florals by Rogue & Fox Floral Co to the neon signage and tarot card reader. Steve Cowell Photo made all of their wedding photo dreams come true, including a stroll through Grand Central Market where the adoring public cheered on the stars of the day, the bride and groom! DON'T TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY

When I set out to plan my wedding, I knew that first and foremost it needed to be a reflection of us as a couple, and equally important, I wanted it to be a super fun party! We both love classic movies and work in the film and television industry (Jordan is a writer and I’m a producer), so that’s how I came up with the idea for a Neo-noir/Hollywood “camp” theme. It was a fun way to pay homage to the industry we love and work in, the city we live in, and the cultural references that have inspired us, without taking ourselves too seriously. As you can probably tell by the Crocodile Dundee poster hanging in the dining room of the venue, we rarely, if ever, take ourselves seriously.

IT'S ALL IN THE CUSTOM DETAILS

Our wedding incorporated many DIY elements. We made custom drink coasters as our wedding favors with different movie posters on them. Each movie poster was customized to the guests! For the escort cards, I purchased old Rolodexes on eBay and used a label maker to enter our guests’ names on the cards. It took a LONG time but it was so worth it in the end! I loved the interactive experience it created as guests searched for their names, just like high-powered agents used to do in days of yore. Our friend Justin, who is a brilliant art director for music videos, films, and TV shows, designed and built our ceremony arch. We owe him big time now. The arch was a pink pagoda with neon lighting that was a reference to LA’s Chinatown, the home of many a film noir. After dinner, the arch was repurposed to be a backdrop for our photo booth station.

DRESS FOR THE PART YOU WANT

The groom and groomsmen wore unique rhinestone brooches in lieu of traditional boutonnieres. For my bridal look, I wanted to go for an edged-up take on classic Hollywood. I opted for a Veronica Lake-inspired look but modernized it with bobby pins, lots of gold jewelry including a backward vintage rosary, and some hot pink heels. We wanted to include our guests in this fun theme, so we came up with some creative dress code instructions for the invitations: Gals–What would Michelle Pfiefer’s character wear to a wedding in Scarface? Dudes–You’ve got a bit part in a party scene on Miami Vice, but you’re hoping to get bumped up to series regular. It was so fun to see the amazing outfits everyone showed up in!

GREET THE PUBLIC

My advice to other couples planning now: If the schedule allows, I highly recommend doing an offsite shoot with the bridal party (or just you and the groom). One of my favorite memories of the day was walking past Grand Central Market with the bridal party on our way to take photos. Everyone in the market started cheering and applauding us, cars slowed down and honked, it was the coolest thing ever! Honestly, I can’t recommend walking around in public in a wedding dress enough. People are so nice to you!
