Mountaintop Elopement In Colorado During The First Snowfall

Wedding couple in the mountains by a snow-covered lake

Outdoor winter elopements are not for the faint of heart, but dang–they make for some killer photos! This couple was actually planning on a fall elopement, but Mother Nature decided to bless them with a winter white dusting of snow on their big day. Because it was still fall, they were able to get the best of both worlds–snowy mountaintop photos and moody fall photos deeper in the forest. The bride and groom's light ensembles blend with the freshly fallen snow and make it look like they are simply melting together into the scenery.

Vows and Peaks specializes in planning adventurous elopements and photographing them and was just as excited as the couple to see that they'd have snow for their special day. Parsley & Valentine decided that it would be best to go big with the bride's bouquet because it would serve as the only florals in the wedding and needed to help set the scene. THE FIRST SNOW

At least once a year, Colorado is blessed with an early dusting of snow during the fall. These early snowfalls are extra special for elopements because the photos are so dramatic with the white snow and fall colors. When I met up with Tyler and Valerie for their elopement, we realized pretty quickly how special this day was going to be, cold temperatures and all.

THE WORLD STOOD STILL

We started off with a first look as the dramatic clouds rolled over the mountain peaks behind them. First looks are always my favorite part of every elopement, but the fresh snow and clouds made this one extra special! We then hiked over to a small tarn where they shared their vows privately. My favorite part about this spot was that we had zero wind, which was great for the reflections on the tarn. It’s not often you are up at 12,000 feet and have no wind. How lucky!

A DRAMATIC CHANGE

We then explored the surrounding area before heading down to the lower elevation to catch the fall colors on the aspen trees. It was quite the contrast from the snowy peaks but that’s what made this day so fun and unique. Going from one dramatic scene to another with such different contrasts but so incredibly fun. We explored an aspen grove where they took in the booming yellows and warmed up under the Colorado sun! You really can’t write up a more unique elopement in Colorado. Valerie and Tyler embraced the cold morning while soaking in the crazy Colorado weather. It really was the perfect day for these two!
