So often we see modern-styled weddings go the route of a monochrome palette and crisp geometric details, so when this warm and natural take on the modern wedding came on our radar, our curiosity was piqued. Beautiful natural textures like wood and limestone mix with clean lines and a warm fall color palette in this beautiful wedding that's nothing short of magical. Overall the vibe is zen, which makes sense when you read how chill this couple was about planning the entire wedding. We also love how this couple really personalized their ceremony!
It's clear to see that they were in good hands with Fulton Events at the helm, planning their wedding. Instead of searching for a venue to fit their vision, they fell in love with this breathtaking modern venue, The Barnes Foundation, and designed their wedding around that. The organic and whimsical arrangements by Winsome Floral echoed the trees that frame the building and brought the outside in. Magdalena Studios took these stunning photos that capture this day beautifully! Keep reading to hear more from Kelee of Magdalena Studios and the couple themselves about the planning process and the dream team that brought their vision to life.
We met living in Seattle, where we had both moved after college for jobs. We had some mutual friends and were friends for over a year before we hooked up on a group lake trip to Lake Chelan over the 4th of July. After a bit of playing hard to get, we started dating later that summer (2015) and have been together ever since! We got engaged on Jamie's 30th birthday in our apartment that we bought together and had just moved into a few months prior. Before we left for the drinks/dinner that Henry had planned, Henry came out with a wrapped birthday gift (which was unusual because we usually don't do gifts for each other). I opened it to find a Bottega clutch, which had the ring box inside. Henry had planned to cue me to open the bag but didn't realize that I would be able to feel the box inside the clutch and immediately opened the bag. He scrambled onto one knee and blurted out, "Will you marry me?" while pulling the ring out of his pocket. I was so shocked I said, "WHAT?!" before remembering to say yes.
Jamie and Henry’s wedding at The Barnes Foundation was equal parts modern, elegant, and fun! It took place on a November day, with details that fit the Autumn setting. “We were absolutely blown away during our tour of The Barnes and it was an obvious decision for us. For the vibe of the wedding, we wanted to go with the style of The Barnes since it is so beautiful and we love the aesthetic. This led us to a modern but natural aesthetic with a neutral color palette.”, explained Jamie.
Jamie’s stunned in a timeless Amsale gown, complete with a crepe bow on the back, paired with Saint Laurent platform chunky pumps. The shoes were such a cool pick for the elegant gown! Flowers by Winsome Floral were made up of a fall color palette and reflected the leaves in the trees outside. Henry looked dapper in a custom Zohreh Uomo suit and bowtie.
The couple’s first look took place outside of The Barnes Foundation, with the building as a modern backdrop. The area surrounding the venue is stunning and provided the perfect mix of neutrals and natural colors.
The ceremony took place on location under a gorgeous chuppah and was very special to the couple. Their sister-in-law officiated, and it was personal and so perfect. During the vows, an unplanned, sentimental moment unfolded. Jamie and Henry each answered an important question that the other had asked in the past. Jamie answered Henry’s question, "What have I taught you in our relationship?", and Henry answered Jamie's question, "When did you know that I was the one?" It wasn't intentional but it all flowed together so perfectly. After the ceremony, it was time to party!
The reception room was adorned with florals and featured natural wood textures, which paired perfectly with the neutral, Autumn color palette. Henry was not very involved in the wedding planning but felt very strongly about the band and the bar. The couple decided on a circle bar in the middle of the room and it ended up being one of their favorite parts of the design.
During the party, both Jamie’s & Henry’s moms were lifted in the chairs together during the Hora. Jamie’s mom is Jewish, and while Henry's mom is not Jewish, she requested to do a Hora so she could go up in the chair. Her reaction vs. Jamie's mom's reaction is so hilarious and everyone loved that they did it together!
“Hiring the Clover Event Co. team was hands down the best decision we made in the process. They made everything so seamless and we loved working with them," Henry explained. "We were determined not to let wedding planning stress us out and wanted to enjoy the process, and hiring Clover enabled us to do just that. It was also very important to us that our wedding have a fun, party vibe which led us to 45 Riots. They were so amazing and people were chanting for an encore at the end of the wedding (which we have never seen before). Winsome Floral was the perfect choice for our floral vision and we're so glad Clover led us to Courtney, she is truly an artist! Plus, we loved working with the Magdalena Studios team and Liz & Tori were the perfect fit for us and our vibe! Everything throughout the day was so calm and seamless, and then the party was a huge rager just like we wanted! We realized after the wedding that our entire vendor team was made up of women-owned businesses, and we're pretty sure that's why the day was so flawless!” Jamie had her own message to share about wedding planning, "Don't let it stress you out - it should be fun! Also, hire an amazing wedding planner that matches your style. Enjoy it!”
