Hilary and Edward met on the London online dating scene, and had been together five years before they deciding to get married. There wasn't a formal proposal - Edward knew this wasn't Hilary's style. Instead he cornered her in the bathroom, asked her what her intentions were, and they decided that they better take the plunge.
Hilary is Canadian and Edward is English, although they both live in England they got married in her home town of Ottawa, Canada. With an England comes to Canada theme, they incorporated lots of touches from both sides of the pond - including one of our favorites, the ever fabulous Liberty of London fabric. You can see it used in bunting, table runners and even in Edward's tie. There are so many more fabulous photos to see in the full gallery here. All captured by AMBphoto.
From the bride-While the 'where' was hard, the 'what' was easy. I wanted a tent reception with a relaxed, vintagey vibe and a subtle 'England comes to Canada' theme. To this end, our venue was a museum depicting a 1930s Ontario village, which we decorated in classic Liberty of London floral prints, some of which dated from the 30s.
We also tried to incorporate lots of touches from both sides of the pond - the whole wedding party was outfitted by London designers, I walked down the aisle to a traditional British hymn, and our menu included goodies such as mini bison burgers, Arctic char, mini Beavertails (Canada), and fish and chips, Victoria Sponge cake and elderflower cordial (UK). We ended the night with a traditional ceilidh and a bit of Cape Breton fiddling thrown in for good measure.
Wishing she had a day of coordinator-This is probably one of the most common regrets from brides, but - I wish I had hired a wedding day coordinator! I hired my florist to do all my setup and decorating, and I used a full service caterer who took care of most aspects of the reception, but I still wish I had paid someone to be the 'point person' on the day and deal with all the little things that crop up. I thought I could do this, but it really is not the best role for the bride to assume!
We worked with some fantastic vendors in both Canada and the UK who helped us pull off our perfect wedding. I couldn't have done it all without my sister, a talented interior designer who acted as my constant support and style guru! She made my veil, sewed miles of bunting and runners, designed signage, laid out programs, shopped for a suit with Ed, and helped with a hundred other little details. The wedding wouldn't have been half as lovely without her by our side!
