Picking the perfect wedding location usually is a delicate and utterly time-consuming affair. Scouting venues of familiar weddings past, left with the usual choices to fit everyone’s needs. For us however, it was as easy as getting up on a weekend morning with perfect sunshine. We knew all along that we wanted to get married in Italy. And what better place than the island that represents the essence of “la dolce vita”, the perfection of everything Italy has to offer, where past and present jet-set show themselves, to catch a slice of happiness – the magnificent island of Capri. It had already been the scene of our most romantic proposal, my happy place, it was crystal clear, we would like to get married here.
Scrolling through Instagram, I found this absolutely stunning profile of Capri Moments, a wedding agency run by two caprese ladies, Fabrizia and Maria-Consiligia. Looking at their posts and stories, I immediately knew this is exactly what I was looking for. A few video-chats and calls later, it was clear we had a very special connection, filled with lots of trust. We traveled to Capri to view the civil wedding locations. Knowing Capri very well, this was the easiest part for us. When Fabrizia and Maria of Capri Oltre il Giardino proposed to take full ownership of the décor and flowers, and to surprise us at our wedding, it took us just seconds to say yes to this rather unusual plan. This was one of our best decisions I made, next to marrying my husband.
Picking a remote location, bears the advantage that you are automatically reduced to a much more intimate event. We decided to only invite our nearest family members, each with no more than a handful of our closest friends. This leaves you with enough time for each and every one of your guests, and a group that all know and like each other.
Get together under lemon trees – Our first venue couldn’t have reflected Capri better than Casa Mariaantonia did. A small intimate restaurant, located in the center of Anacapri, where you can dine directly underneath lemon trees. As colorful Capri inspires lots of designers, for me it was clear that my dress for the first night had to be a colorful floral Dolce & Gabbana dress. All our female guests were also asked to keep it colorful for the first night. The location lived up to its promise, serving lemon pasta, and letting everyone get into the “la dolce vita” mood, for the upcoming weekend.
As every bride will agree, the wedding day is filled with anxiety, happiness and curiosity. Mine started in the early afternoon, in a stunning room at Capri Palace, accompanied by my mom and my two best friends. My hair and makeup was done by two kind ladies from Beauty Livery and was captured by our talented photographer Paolo Ceritano . As the make-up was finally done, I was super excited to get into my wedding dress, purchased at the white-showroom in Spain. As I wanted to keep it simple and classy, I opted for dress from a Spanish designer, based in Sevilla, and a classic long vail. For the shoes I dreamt about my Carry Bradshaw moment in Manolo Blahniks – and of course there’s not color that reflects Capri more than blue. Getting dressed I got more and more excited and finally got to the venue on a beautiful blue old-timer convertible, accompanied by my parents, as our guests and pre-arrived at la Damecuta.
La Damecuta, the ceremony – as all of our guests would agree the location for our civil ceremony was breathtaking. An intimate place located high above the rocks, with views over the clear blue Capresian sea. Walking down the aisle with my father, seeing all of our guests and my future husband, I was startled. The entire floor was covered with colorful dried flowers, whilst Pampas-Grass décor was swaying slowly in the light breeze and the sun gave everything a diamond sparkle. My husband was wearing a blue-smoking with a matching blue bow-tie.
The major of Anacapri held the ceremony in Italian, during with one of our guests acted as an interpreter. After approximately 20 Minutes we were finally husband and wife.
We held our wedding dinner at Il Riccio, a place so stunning, located at the cliffs of Capri, serving one-Michelin star food, its referred to as one of the islands hotspots to visit. The reception was held on the top level, a beautiful sunset terrace, serving au d’oeuvres and drinks. Music was provided by Capris most famous DJ Fabio Vuotto, a resident who plays sunset lounges and clubs during the summer and spends his winters in Thailand on Phuket, where he is the resident DJ at the world famous Catch-Beach club. One of the defining moments was Fabios choice of dramatic music as the sun melted into the ocean, during the most perfect sunset we had ever seen.
After the sun went down, the lower level is the restaurant, where Capri Moments had prepared a single, long table for us, decorated with pink, yellow and blue flowers and candles set the scene for the entire evening. Personalized porcelain plates with swaying grass hanging from the ceiling completed the look. We really want to thank Fabrizia and Maria for creating such a special surprise for us, when we saw the table for the first time. We can highly recommend to every couple, to give up control and leave it to your agency. It gave us the feeling to be guests at our own wedding, so we could enjoy every single moment.
A memorable highlight at Il Riccio is the instagram friendly temptation room, filled with all kinds of desserts and treats. After dinner we moved back upstairs, for the final procedure – the cutting of the wedding cake. Fabio played Italian hits like “volare” getting the party started. By now the sunset deck had been transformed into a proper outdoor club with everyone on full throttle.
