From The Bride:When we were first engaged, Erin and I dreamed of having a wedding that would feel just like one of those perfect early fall nights in the south - romantic, nostalgic, relaxed - where we could celebrate the best night of our lives surrounded by the people most dear to us. In the end, our wedding exceeded all of our highest hopes. In the course of planning our wedding, we were overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from our family and friends. We were overjoyed to forge friendships with many of the amazing professionals who helped make our dream a reality. And we confirmed that we truly do make a pretty fabulous little team.
The event design team at Cedarwood and our paper goods designers at Designs in Paper took all of our ideas above and beyond what we could have hoped for, and took all of the stress out of our hands so that the day of, we were both able to sit back and enjoy every moment - and you have to enjoy every moment, because it goes by so fast!
I was able to appreciate Erin's tears of joy when I saw him at the first look, to laugh with my dad as he walked me down the aisle, to cry like a baby during our ceremony, and to let loose on the dance floor with my new niece and nephews - all totally unforgettable and incredibly special moments.
Like so many couples, we wanted our wedding to look and feel like us - and literally took to our closets for initial inspiration. Bold colors in red and navy, a little bit preppy, a little bit whimsical... once we chose Cedarwood as our venue, the historic home and grounds seemed to be a perfect match for an elegant Americana picnic idea. Bold red reminded Erin of the vintage glass Coke bottles that he drank out of as a child at his grandmother's house. Navy reminded me of the rich color of the Michigan state flag, which I decided to display as a tribute to my home state, next to the Tennessee state flag, for Erin. Our caterer manned a giant grill, and grilled up tasty steak, salmon and vegetables for dinner.
Etsy provided tiny cupcake toppers perfect for Erin's favorite mini-cupcakes, and I found red gingham take-out boxes at the craft store, and turned those into activity boxes for our youngest guests. One particularly special element of our day included the homemade wedding favors, strawberry-rhubarb jam. My mother grows rhubarb in her garden at home in Michigan, and is famous in my hometown for her wonderful strawberry-rhubarb pies. For our wedding, she gave us the incredibly generous gift of making homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam for each guest to take home. It was delicious!
