We all wish we had a crystal ball to tell us what the weather would be like at our wedding, but as we all know Mother Nature is unpredictable.
Typically couples fret over rain, but severe wind gusts can cause just as must havoc as a surprise shower. Our next couple, Alysia and Calvin experienced a surprise wind storm, but as you scroll down and see that they did not let the wind ruin their Colorado barn wedding. They prevailed and had a beautiful day despite the weather. Their day of coordinator, Mathews Weddings and Events shared details on Alysia and Calvin's windy wedding, as well as some helpful advice on what to do if the wind picks up at your wedding.
Tips and tricks to keep in mind if you are getting married in an area that likes to throw a surprise wind storm from Mathews Weddings and Events.
When setting up for a wedding we like to have all decor completed an hour before the ceremony. This ensures everything is set for detailed photos and that no setup is being done when guests arrive.
For Alysia and Calvin's day we set up the ceremony site and finished with the reception setup. Thanks to student council members from a local school that the bride's mother worked at, we were able to set up all place settings and centerpieces very quickly. Each table had a centerpiece that consisted of a picture of the couple and a mason jar with wild blooms. Each place setting had a bamboo disposable plate, fork, and an embossed napkin. We were set and ready!
At first we began picking up the place settings and putting them back on the table, but the wind would immediately blow them off again. We then switched things up and decided to do buffet style where the guests would receive their plate, utensil, and napkin at the beginning of the line for food. This helped us keep things from blowing away. Other than a light sprinkle later in the reception the wind wasn't too bad.
Alysia, Calvin, and all their friends and family paid no mind to it and danced the night away. When planning your outdoor wedding always have a few plan B's in mind knowing you may have to implement them. They may be minor or major, but planning ahead allows those helping you on your day act quickly. Being able to act quickly keeps you and your guests from feeling like "something went wrong" and you can continue to celebrate without any hold up.

Alysia found her wedding dress at Colorado bridal salon, The Bridal Collection. She wore a Martina Liana style 984 wedding dress. An A-line wedding dress with a beaded layered lace bodice and frothy, full skirt with a sparkle tulle layer to give it an enviable shimmer.
Most of her bridesmaids dresses were a combination of Show Me Your Mumu. Her Maids of Honor both wore beaded bridesmaid dresses. She picked out a few beaded bridesmaid dresses that are both under $200 that we know you'd love. Both of the neutral bridesmaid dresses are from Lulu's. You can shop for the dress on the left here and the dress on the right here.
As you can see from the sway of the tree, the wind has picked up. Although there were 20MPh hour winds, it did not make a difference. The wedding ending up perfect.
We want to make your wedding planning as easy as possible! So, we went ahead and found Alysia and Calvin's wooden cake topper. This mountain inspired cake topper is from Thistle and Lace. A perfect addition to your wedding cake to show that you are an adventurous couple.
