When it came to finding the perfect dress, I knew I wanted something with a higher neckline, a clean sophisticated look, and it had to pair well with a light blue sash. Years ago, I spotted a light blue bow sash in a magazine and have been in love ever since with the idea of adding a sash to my wedding gown. After a few trips to local bridal salons, I knew that I’d have to recreate a designer look on a budget. That’s when I looked into Anthropologie’s Wedding Collection, BHLDN. I spent a few days photoshopping ideas together to create the look I knew I wanted. I then took the plunge and ordered a few pieces and bam – they worked perfectly. A simple strapless ivory gown by Jill Stuart and a romantic ivory lace topper by Tadashi Shoji. Two pieces that came together perfectly. The simplicity and uniqueness of the scalloped neckline and sleek silhouette gave me the tailored and sophisticated look I was going for. The topper added a touch of femininity and elegance to accent the understated gown. It took many failed attempts to find the perfect blue sash but in the end, a simple $16 light blue ribbon would do the trick from David's Bridal.
The time of year had a lot to do with inspiring our wedding style. It is hot this time of year in Florida and we wanted to soften that a bit with lighter shades of summer colors. Choosing a tea length strapless floral bridesmaid dress allowed us the freedom to tie in these summer colors with a muted palette.
I would call our wedding style vintage chic with a bit of rustic flair. After countless hours on Pinterest and browsing local rental companies, it just hit me. I have all of this décor in our home – let’s use it! I used bits and pieces of our vintage and rustic home décor including galvanized buckets, wood letters, white washed wood crates, and added in a soft blue palette to accent. I always go back to that light blue bow sash and how it first inspired our color palette. I used this as a building block for our style – light blue everything with pops of soft peach, ivory, and greens.
Hydrangeas are a favorite of mine and I knew I had to have them in my bridal bouquet. We had my Mother-in-Law create vintage-inspired luggage cookies that we tied together using jute and custom name cards with handwritten calligraphy tying in our love of vintage vibes and rustic touches.
Inspired by our love of unique pieces, Zach and I 'blue-washed' an old antique dresser we picked up off of Craigslist and used this as our cake table. We hope to use this dresser in our future nursery one day as well. It became so special to us, something we created together and a stunning focal point of our wedding. We then added rustic pieces to the mix including wood candle holders, wood logs and blue burlap.
I planned our wedding with the help of a very large Kate Spade planner that held together every note, contract and photo of inspiration for our big day. Zach and I created a very detailed budget and worked extremely hard to stay within it, cutting certain costs here and there. A lot of small hidden costs will hit you so make sure to plan for those! We did a lot of research and before making any decisions consulted each other. Together with the help of both of our families, our dream wedding was made a reality. I also highly recommend hiring a day of coordinator to take the burden off of the bride. Our day of planner made every single detail of our wedding come to fruition and I am forever grateful.
