Greg and I met just after university in our chartered accountancy preparation classes. We had a spark from the beginning and have had an incredible journey together moving from Toronto to London and traveling the world in between.
Our wedding in Cyprus was a dream come true and full of love, laughter and was tons of fun. We had 140 guests attend from 9 different countries. We chose Cyprus as that’s where my family is originally from and couldn’t resist the warm weather and the natural beauty of Minthis Hills.
We chose Karina as our photographer after stumbling onto her blog and seeing her incredible portfolio of work. Karina has the ability to take timeless shots and really capture the beauty, emotion, and uniqueness of each couple and wedding. We were also lucky enough to meet Karina on a trip to Cyprus ahead of our wedding day where we immediately clicked and she took some engagement shots that have become incredibly special to both me and Greg.
On the day of our wedding, Karina was able to keep us relaxed, happy and having fun. She was able to navigate through lots of complicated logistics and really capture the love we all felt on that day.
We started the fun with a welcome party a couple of days before the wedding so our guests could mix and mingle and get a taste of the local Cypriot cuisine and culture. The event was a hit and proved to be the perfect warm-up for the big day.
Guests stayed at the luxurious Almyra hotel which provided the perfect location for some sun and fun before and after the festivities.
We spent the wedding morning with our respective families. Elena’s morning started at her grandmother’s house. The morning was spent with her most important girls; her mom, grandmother, and bridesmaids sipping Laurent Perrier champagne and getting ready. Later her closest family gathered for the traditional Cypriot sending off ceremony where love filled every corner of the house.
Greg spent his morning with his family in Pafos, sharing special moments with his closest family and groomsmen.
Elena arrived at Minthis Hills with her parents in style in a vintage Rolls Royce which was the perfect way to arrive on her big day. Minthis Hills was a unique location that offered the stunning contrast between the ancient Greek Orthodox monastery and the ultra-modern and luxurious clubhouse on the golf club grounds.
The ceremony was traditional Greek orthodox which added to the mystique of the day and helped the guests learn more about the local Cypriot culture. Following the ceremony, guests were whisked to the 10th green for canapes and champagne while they enjoyed the stunning vistas afforded by the Minthis Hills golf course.
Our vision was one of timeless romance while trying to keep everything feeling warm and relaxed. Our décor reflected the romantic theme through the use of candles, lots of flowers in every imaginable shade of pink (o’hara roses, hydrangeas) along with beautiful greenery from Eucalyptus, Italian long ruscus among others. It was very important to us for our guests to experience some of the best food on the island and they weren’t disappointed by the cuisine offered by Minthis Hills.
We also wanted to offer our guests some special surprises so our first dance was followed by sparklers and then by fireworks. The fireworks proved to be special and romantic and even stopped overhead airplanes while they continued. The evening continued until the early hours of the morning with lots of champagne, dancing, and fun.
