The proposal

We met at a pregame before we were off to a black tie charity event. Our love was hard and fast but after 6 months our relationship ended abruptly. We both weren't quite ready for each other yet. When we reconnected 5 months later, we knew that what we had was real. In the time we spent apart, we could never stop thinking about each other. In starting again we took it slowly. Eventually, we moved in together after a year and a half and got a dog. And three and half years after we met, he proposed.

It was a Sunday. He tricked me into thinking our friends had ditched us last minute for our Sunday funday on the boat. He asked if it would be okay if it was just us three — him, me and our pup Mowgli. I said of course. He wanted to bring a really nice bottle of champagne, which I thought nothing of since we always drink mimosas on the boat, but I said just bring the $10 one instead since we both were having stomach aches. Mine from whatever I ate the night before. His because he was about to propose.

It was a perfect April afternoon in Miami Beach, where we docked amongst the Venetian Islands. He got down on one knee and asked me to spend his life with him, and I said yes. I was so happy but a little overwhelmed at the prospect of having to call everyone to tell them the news. So instead I called my best friend so we could meet up at one of our favorite local spots to celebrate with more champagne and oysters. Little did I know that he had planned for all our family and friends to be waiting there to surprise me. It was absolutely perfect.

The Big Day

I had always wanted to get married under a big tree. I love nature and greenery and I love the grounding sensation you get by being close to the wisdom of an old tree. My vision was to have this whimsical black-tie garden wedding in Miami Beach. And so we did, at Fisher Island under a beautiful, grand banyan tree with the most supreme view of Miami where we were both raised.

Amongst our family and friends, we were the happiest we had ever been. In a few months, we’ll be heading to New Zealand and Australia for our honeymoon and we obviously couldn’t be more excited. Except to move into our newly purchased home, which we’re currently renovating.
