I've been reading lots of articles on how to prep my house for fall, but what I really wanted to know is how to prep myself for fall/winter. The season changes so quickly and all the sudden I am freezing, my skin is patchy and red and my lips are dry and crusty.
prep your hair for the winter
In the summer your hair is at it's thickest to protect from the sun. Around July and August your hair will start to shed. Yes, just like a dog! In November, December and a bit of January. Here are a few tips to help keep your hair healthy this winter.
1. Deep condition once a week. To lock in that moisture
2. Use more pure based shampoos (olive oil, tea tree, shea butter, aloe vera and purified water)
3. Once a week use a dandruff shampoo to keep you scalp moisturized
4. Use lukewarm water to shampoo your hair and do a cool rinse

prep your skin for the winter
1. Cleanse your face with a product that has a bit more moisture in the winter. Your skin is already starting to dry out from the weather and a harsh cleanser could make your fine lines more visible.
2. Take short luke warm showers and exfoliate. It will bring back your youthful glow. Hot water zaps all the natural oils out of your body leaving it dry. Turn the heat down, wash yourself and get out. Immediately after getting out of the shower, pat dry your skin and apply a heavy moisturizer.
3. Sleep with a humidifier on. The winter air is dry and cold and a humidifier will put that much needed moisture back in your skin.
4. Make a sugar scrub for your lips to bring back the moisture. Plus it tastes delicious.

prep your feet for the winter
Your feet do not have oil gland, so they are generally really dry. There are several recipes to help with dry feet. I am going to have to try all of them, but the best method to start before winter is to simply apply coconut oil to your feet and put a light pair of socks on, or let them dry.
