How To Do Your One Year Later Wedding Right
Every couple deserves a day to celebrate their love and their marriage. For so many lately, that celebration had to be postponed. Now that travel is opening up and we're learning to live in this new normal, this couple was finally able to have the wedding celebration that they have been waiting for for a year! Not only were they celebrating their relationship, but they were celebrating a year of marriage, which in the middle of a worldwide pandemic is no small feat. The most important thing to them was to have their family with them this time around.
Their "second wedding" was held at The Barn At Evergreen, a beautiful wooden venue with the most stunning stained glass window feature. According to the bride, pampas grass inspired most of the wedding design, so it's no surprise that Lafayette Florist used it generously in these voluminous arrangements. RICH BOHEMIAN
As many couples have done in light of COVID-19, Julia and John had to alter their dream wedding plans last year to instead move forward with a small living room ceremony, but decided to hold the wedding they had originally planned exactly one year later to renew their vows–and it did NOT disappoint! Rich bohemian vibes like a fluffy pampas grass arch and warm copper tones filled the intimate day that felt like the perfect celebration of one year of marriage and the feeling of seeing the light at the end of this pandemic tunnel!
GOING ALL-OUT
The inspiration for the wedding was rustic/bohemian. I love layering different textures and having natural elements and really wanted to incorporate that into the decor. This was our "second wedding" as our first was canceled due to COVID-19. We opted to have a very small ceremony and reception with only our immediate family in attendance. I think this really played into the decor/theme of the day as we were able to go "all-out" on one table setting, florals, etc. vs. having to style a venue for 150 guests. I was really inspired by pampas grass. It has natural bends and flows so delicately that it is breathtaking to me. That was the focal piece of the wedding and the rest of the decor really flowed from that. The most important thing was intimacy, to us. We wanted a long farmhouse table that was full of good food, drinks, and decor to draw us into each other as a family. I almost thought of it as a really nice Thanksgiving dinner where all the most important things in life were gathered together.
ALL THE FEELS
We were not able to share our wedding vows with anyone at the first ceremony, so it was really important to us to share that with our family and invite them into partnering with us in our marriage. We were also able to add little details of how well they have supported us over the first year of marriage which was really sweet. Another piece of the wedding we missed was all of the "first" dances. My sister and brother-in-law wrote us a song after our first wedding singing about how even 'at the end of the world' we would do it all over again to be married. That was a really special moment to share with my husband and family. All in all, our day was intimate, stress-free, and full of laughter. Being with the ones you love is all that truly matters when planning a wedding, and we were so blessed to be able to experience that love twice! The photographer, Ashlee Crowden, said, "I wanted to capture the day as it was really happening, every moment was so raw and tender to John and Juliana. Being that it was a reschedule, this wedding was a long time coming. They made my job easy in the sense that anytime they looked at each other, they smiled, couldn't stop kissing, and you can tell they just truly love one another."
