From the Bride: We planned our wedding from Michigan, which is where we live now. Planning an out-of-state wedding is tricky business, so our engagement ended up being over two years. I recommend putting your money where your priorities are, which we had three: 1) for our guests to have a great time, 2) to have clean photography that would be timeless, and 3) to have beautiful invitations (I have a letterpress studio, and naturally wanted to splurge on paper!). I also recommend doing a first look. I don't think anyone could have talked me into this, but looking back I see why it's a wise decision. It's a better use of your time with the photographer and you would get to enjoy more time with your guests. So spend your money where your priorities are, take photos before the ceremony, and then of course enjoy the day! It truly does go by so fast and you'll be wishing you could relive it again ... at least I am.

We had a magical day and have stunning photos to show for it, but if I could do it all over again, I would put more time into planning the photography. I hired the most amazing photographer and just left it at that. I assumed the candid shots would "just happen" and didn't put any thought into them until after the wedding. I should have included candid shots with the shot list I gave the photographer, for example pinning the boutonniere on my dad's lapel (which I didn't do, but should have), us in our getaway car, or us posed certain ways, etc.

At the end of the day, there will always be something you wish you had done differently and in the big picture those things really aren't what's important. The day after the wedding, I was so sad "it was all over" and my dad reminded me that it's not over, it's just beginning. And that truly is what matters.
