From Ais Portraits: Amber and Derrick celebrated their love for each other in front of friends and family in one of the most beautiful venues in Florida, The Treasury on the Plaza in Saint Augustine. In the early 20th century, Treasury on the Plaza was a historic bank that was converted to a wedding venue.
There were so many truly beautiful moments and details on Amber and Derrick’s wedding day. Amber’s father passed away, and to honor his memory, she wore his shoes down the aisle with her uncle escorting her. There was not a dry eye in the audience for that special moment.
One of the things I love about this couple is that when they are together they are completely focused on each other. They are accomplished and amazing people individually, but together they are incredible. In the middle of wedding planning, they started a new business together called Florida Fun Bikes in Gainesville, Florida. When Amber told me about it, my jaw dropped because their ability to juggle their incredibly busy lives and focus on their love for each other is truly inspiring. The entire wedding day could not have been more perfect, and a large part of that was the amazing coordinators at Uncorked Occasions, the staff at Treasury on the Plaza, and Amber’s sweet cousin Tifanie Owens.
From the bride: Get started early and plan ahead. We had an 18 month engagement and that was the perfect amount of time to get everything planned and not feel stressed. Last minute things will come up but having the major things done well in advance will help you manage the crazy that life will inevitably throw at you. Double Check Contracts and Be clear on your wants/needs. Having everything in writing helped when certain criteria weren't met or vendors fell short of their promises
I was mentally prepared for something to go wrong based on what I had read or just advice from other brides. So many people RSVP'd that didn't show up and for me that was a big deal. I know it happens everywhere but just knowing we wasted additional money and time was a big deal to me. There was also a Hurricane that hit St. Augustine two weeks before our wedding took place and our host hotel finished all the renovation from damage only a few hours before guests started to arrive to for the weekend. There was really no way to fix it but in hindsight I could have panicked a lot less and not be so worried about the outcome of things I couldn't control. Having Wedding insurance really did help my stress level.
