Fun And Funky Modern Country Chic Wedding

Bride and groom embrace in a cornfield wedding photo

Weddings can be whatever you want them to be, but bottom line, they should be fun. So whatever it is that makes you and your special someone smile, laugh or just all around giddy, That should be what you aim for on your big day. Our next IRL couple, Lauren and Kris delighted in creating their wedding all on their own, with the help from friends and some talented vendors of course. And their modern country chic day was definitely a delight.

You can see more of Lauren's Rue De Seine wedding dress and their funky and fun reception in our full gallery thanks to the photos brought to you by Corrie Mahr Photography.

As the photographer, this was just a DREAM wedding to shoot. Lauren and Kris had put so much thought into the design of the day, which they executed pretty much fully themselves (with friends' help)! The whole day was a boho-chic dream, with greenery galore, floral patterned bridesmaids dresses, beautiful reception area, and a GORGEOUS Rue De Seine bridal dress.

The wedding took place at Maplehurst venue in Mount Vernon, Washington. Everyone started in a giant Airbnb for the weekend, where they all got ready in the morning. Then, made their way over to the venue for the ceremony and reception.

For photos, we were able to explore the venue a bit. We even made a cornfield look cool as they danced around in the golden dust. The day was perfect.

From the Bride

Cheri Bargen of Eidle Wilde Flower Farm and Design did the bouquets, boutonnieres, two arrangements at front of ceremony and one arrangement on guestbook table, and she brought a dozen or so buckets of blooms and greens that I requested for us to do the tables and aisle arrangements and the cake and hair flowers ourselves. Then additionally, my maid of honor and Kris and I harvested dozens of huge fresh plumes of pampas grass from my parents' yard in Seattle on the day before the wedding and lugged it all up on the back of our red truck.

The white wedding cakes were done by Holly at Whole Foods, Bellingham location. The kransekake (the tiered cake that looks like stacked rings) is a traditional Norwegian cake made from almonds for weddings and celebrations, so we make it within the family, and my aunt made mine. The tradition at weddings is that the bride and groom take hold of the top ring of the cake and pull it off, and however many rings come off with it is supposed to be how many children you will have. I think we pulled off nine rings.
