Professional chef power couple Phil and Lauren were married at Foxfire Mountain House in the Catskill Mountains in New York on October 16, 2021. Lauren grew up in Southern California. Phil is Canadian, from Edmonton, AB. They both moved to NYC to follow their dreams of becoming professional chefs, and after working in restaurants for a combined 22 years, they both became private chefs. They now live in Brooklyn, NY with their 4 year old Doberman, Macallan. They wanted their wedding to feel like them - to have their personalities shine through the design and all of the little touches - especially because it was going to be the first time since the pandemic that they had seen so many loved ones. The goal was for it to feel like a celebration of love, friendship and life, and it absolutely did. A fall date was chosen for their wedding day because it's the bride's favorite season. The landscape of the Catskills is on fire at that time of year with stunning fall foliage that made for a truly breath-taking background to the weekend. Because of this, the couple chose burnt orange, charcoal and marine blue with pops of mustard as their colors for the day.
The bride wore a BHLDN gown paired with mustard colored Soludos wedges for the ceremony, and high top platform converse for the reception. The groom wore a custom suit from Indochino complete with a hockey themed lining and Astorflex boots.
1. Listen to yourself and listen to your partner.
2. Trust your instincts- there might be pressure to please other people, but at the end of the day, it's about you two as a couple.
3. The day is a celebration of your love and the life you’ll share. Try to not forget that, and enjoy the process!
The wedding was officiated by a dear family friend who has been a consistent sounding board of support and guidance to the couple over the years. Guests attending were asked to send in their best marriage advice to Phil’s sisters. They took notes and wove it into a heart warming and hilarious reading during the ceremony.
For the tablescapes, fresh produce was sourced from farms at the Union Square greenmarket in NYC and in the Hamptons - both were farms that the couple has worked
with for many years. Place cards were handwritten by the wedding party on magnolia leaves picked from a family friend's trees.
The Food Phil and Lauren of course knew the food for their wedding day had to be good! And this wasn't just for their sake - so many people had made comments about how excited they were to eat food at the wedding of two chefs that the pressure was on.
They ate at Foxfire Mountain House twice before booking, and they worked closely with the venue’s chef/owner - Tim - to plan the meals for their wedding weekend. Everyone at Foxfire was so great about making the couple's vision for the food come alive, which included a delicious nacho spread to end the evening.
Their wedding favors were jars of popcorn kernels from Oak Grove Farm with Moroccan spices. Popcorn is a favorite snack of the bride's.
