Oh my pretty! Mackenzie and JJ’s lakefront wedding was truly flawless from begging to end! Soft shades of blush, peach and gold popped against the lovely backdrop of Sunset Lodge and created a fresh look and feel to their dreamy day in Michigan.
The DIY signage and overflowing bouquets are just a few of our favorite details! Get a first hand look at the entire wedding in the full gallery here captured by the talented Samantha James Photography. Enjoy!
From the bride: Our story began 9 years ago when we met during a northern Michigan summer. It would be another 6 years until we would reconnect. JJ is a helicopter pilot in the Navy so our time dating was a lot of weekend adventures and old fashioned letter writing until I moved out to San Diego to be with him. JJ proposed (it was breathtaking) and then was called out on his first deployment. During that time his dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer so I planned the wedding on my own while JJ was serving overseas.
Each decision was made with family and every detail had a personal significance to us. Our wedding was intimate and emotional as we welcomed home 3 soldiers who stood up next to us, and JJ finally saw his dad again. I chose the beautiful setting of The Sunset Lodge which so kindly allowed us to host our sweet and small wedding. Everyone cozied up and we made an incredible weekend stay out of it.
Our ceremony over looked grand traverse bay and we danced under the northern Michigan stars. My mom and ladies crafted each bouquet and flower arrangement and my maid of honor did all the hand lettering. It was a perfect fall day full of whimsical romance and everyone we loved was there to celebrate with us. What more could and bride and groom ask for! Big thank you to Samantha James for capturing the magic.
