Justin and Cathy met at a bar - of all places - on St. Patrick's Day in 2018. They quickly learned that they both loved to ski, particularly in Jackson Hole, and the adventure kept going from there! Justin proposed in front of a group of friends at the top of the Chamonix Chutes at Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah in 2021. After popping a bottle of Ruinart Champagne, the planning began, and the rest was history! Keep scrolling to see how this couple's wedding day at Banyan Tree Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen came together with the help of My Perfect Wedding, and captured on camera by Memory Box.
Banyan Tree Mayikoba was a natural choice for Cathy and Justin because they had been to the area many times to scuba dive in the ocean and cenotes. The venue had the perfect blend of Asian themes, as well as impeccable service and privacy. They quickly hired My Perfect Wedding as a full-time planner to ensure the entire weekend wedding was effortlessly coordinated.
The wedding weekend began with welcome drinks on Thursday evening, and a pool/beach party on Friday with the feel of a Vegas pool party. Friday morning before the party, the guests had a variety of pre-planned activities, while Cathy went scuba diving and Justin went golfing.
The morning of the wedding, the parties got ready together before heading to the tea ceremony later that morning. Carajillos and champagne were flowing all morning as the couple moved into a photo shoot at the villa and their first look in their wedding ceremony attire.
The ceremony itself took place on the beach, during which Cathy and Justin exchanged personally written vows that mixed humor with emotion in front of a stunning tropical semi-circle installation by Pure Love Floral Design.

The goal for Cathy and Justin's wedding reception ambiance was romantic and floral, with lots of greenery. Their main goal was for their decor to echo the natural beauty of the Mayakoba area. Food brought an East meets West vibe as bride Cathy is Chinese. The bride and groom ensured their guests experienced the taste of the amazing Mexican cuisine from that area that they love while also mixing in Asian elements such as a dumpling bar and Chinese steamed whole fish as a main dish. The meal was served family style.
The wedding party arrived at MK Blue for the reception via boat, and after the father and siblings gave speeches during dinner, everyone danced the night away! The evening ended with a gorgeous fireworks display and delicious late-night al pastor and Cabeza de Res tacos.
On Monday, after the wedding weekend, Cathy and Justin did a "trash the dress" shoot and took their wedding attire into the Cenotes - you can imagine this made for some fantastic photos!
