Colombia is known for its authentic South American venues that exude timeless, old-world charm, and that are filled with blooming local florals bursting with rich colors. This context set the scene for Ellen and Jorge's elegant autumn wedding weekend on Colombia’s Caribbean coast at the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena Hotel. The couple chose an elegant theme for their autumn event and opted to host in Cartagena for its warm days and evenings. They wanted to extend that summer feeling long into the autumn season!
The city of Cartagena - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - is filled with bustling locals in the streets, chic rooftop bars for watching romantic sunsets, idyllic island boat tours, and salsa clubs serving mojitos, margaritas, and breathtaking tequila well into the winter months. It is a city full of old-world architecture coexisting with modern hotels and infrastructure, brimming with beautiful, quaint churches and majestic cathedrals. These reasons (and more!) are why Cartagena, Colombia was the perfect place for Ellen and Jorge's wedding party and why so many of planner CCC Event Planning's American clients choose to host their October wedding weekends there.
Ellen and Jorge's three-day music-filled wedding weekend started with a colorful rooftop welcome cocktail party, followed by a more elegant white and green themed wedding ceremony and reception dinner. The couple chose this romantic and elegant theme for their wedding design to complement the historical colors and architecture of the chosen venues, Santa Catalina Cathedral and Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena Hotel. The third, and final day of the destination wedding weekend, was spent on a private beach, enjoying the local fish dishes and coconut-water based cocktails to help with the wedding weekend recovery!
For their wedding on day two, the majestic spaces for both the religious ceremony and the reception were filled with white roses and local greenery that reached to the high ceilings. The couple walked down the aisle to a 10-piece orchestra playing classic songs and religious hymns.

At the reception, tall, tapered candelabras, flower stands, and crystal chandeliers were brought into the design to accentuate the high ceilings and volume of the reception space. Soft candlelight and gold details were used on the long tables to add a luxurious and romantic touch. Pastel florals and greenery, all locally sourced, were used to create the elegant palette for the day. The vivid greens used in the wedding floral design also matched the bride's green gem engagement ring perfectly. Christophe Serrano Photography captured the old-world elegance that truly blended with modern and cosmopolitan influence for this lovely couple's event.
