Briar and Megan met at a cover band concert in Philadelphia one Friday night, when Megan spotted Briar through the crowd and walked right up to him. The rest was history! They bonded over music that both of them knew and loved, and it wasn't uncommon for them to be on the phone talking until 3 a.m. every night. One night during one of these late-night phone calls, the couple decided they needed a trip to get away from work stress. Briar revealed to Megan that - while they were talking - he had booked them a trip to the new bohemian hot spot: Tulum, Mexico. A couple of weeks later, they were off! They had the time of their lives in Tulum, making new friends, seeing new things, eating the best food, and falling in love.
After being together for almost a year, they decided to go to the town Briar grew up in: Key West. Briar insisted they stop at Bahia Honda State Park, and while walking the beach there, he popped the question! Briar and Megan love to travel so they knew immediately that they wanted a destination wedding - and what better place to tie the knot than where it all began, in Tulum! For the most part, Megan and Briar kept things pretty traditional despite getting married in Mexico. They did have two best men, as well as a matron and man of honor. In fact, having her brother be her man of honor was one of Megan's favorite parts. Her matron was her sister, so having both her sister and brother take the lead on all things wedding made the process feel very natural.
For the bride's gift to Briar, she engraved his parent's handwriting on cuff links. The groom bought Megan an adventure book that gives adventure prompts to do together since they love living for an amazing experience.
Growing up, the bride's mom and dad loved rock and roll (and, really, just live music in general). By the age of five, she had probably already been to 50 concerts! Because of this, her dance with her dad was to a Led Zeppelin song that reminded Megan of her childhood with him. Briar's mom passed when he was 16, ultimately leaving his aunt to become his caregiver. Briar surprised his aunt on the dancefloor with his mom's favorite James Taylor song. It was a very emotional moment that honored his mom and honored his aunt's role in his life.
The couple's media team was very unique. Their photographers were friends of Briar's from college who - separately - have very distinct photography styles, but who - together - come with a photojournalist approach to capturing moments and emotions versus being structured and posed. Their videographer (Visual Rose Films) was a friend of the bride's who she had met through Instagram years ago. He is a master at turning moments into a short story and turning the wedding day into a cinematic masterpiece.
"We like to live by the motto: Do what makes you feel good. Our wedding was about putting an experience together for people. We wanted our family and friends to experience the magic of Tulum the way we did on that very first trip. Wedding planning can be overwhelming with lots of options and lots of opinions, so it's best to stay true to yourself and focus on how you and your guests want to feel on that day, as opposed to how you think it should look.
