Country Chic Wedding in Memphis, Tennessee
Our next wedding is filled to the brim with sentimental details that will you are sure to love! Held in the the bride's parent's backyard, Nina and Evan exchanged their vows on the exact spot they had their first kiss in front of an altar hand built by the groom and several family members. How romantic! They als0 chose the same date as Nina's parents and dedicated a song to them at the reception. Along with the sentimental details, South Holly Road helped Nina and Evan incorporate rustic and eclectic decor that created a chic, whimsical atmosphere at this backyard wedding.

From South Holly Road:The bride is an outdoorsy kinda girl, but also very feminine. We found the perfect way to fuse Nina's whimsical taste and keep the evening fancy with Southern charm. Everything was gorgeous beyond measure. The bridal bouquet was inspired by the venue...an organic and chic design with yummy smelling freesia, peonies, seeded eucalyptus and bells of Ireland.
Nina's father, the groom and several family members built the altar with their own hands at the same spot where Nina and Evan shared their first kiss as boyfriend and girlfriend. How sentimental is that!? The ceremony seating was made of wood cut from their own yard. The family was so amazing with helping to pull the wedding design together!
It rained like cats and dogs for two days before the event. We laid hay literally everywhere to cover the wet ground. It actually turned out beautiful and tied in with the theme!
I created the whimsical ribbon dream catcher designs for the altar and reception area. I also designed a custom hookah lounge which included a painted moose head silhouette sign inspired from Canada (where they got engaged), handmade jewel shaped garlands, custom pillows with mirrors and lanterns galore.
Advice for brides: For an eclectic and fun design, use pieces of furniture you already own. We borrowed chairs and a couch from the patio to create part of the lounge space. Sprucing them up with custom pillows added the perfect touch and completed the look!
I really love how the groom's cake is so simple, so southern, and SO charming. Who doesn't love chocolate and strawberries? The groom's mother made it which makes it even more special.
Two thing the bride would have done differently:First, I would have set a limit to our guest list on the front end. We were having the wedding at home and took that advantage a little too far, haha. We wanted a maximum of 300 invites, and we ended up inviting 550 (with 300 guest showing up for the event). Even a month before the wedding, both sides were adding more and more people. It took a toll on the finances and getting things done. I would want to encourage brides to set a guest limit for each side AND STICK TO IT! In the long run, it won't matter that your third cousin once-removed or mailman (unless you happen to be close to them) were there or not.
Secondly, I wish I would have had it during the day. I love the idea of the sunset, lights in the dark, and sparklers to exit, so we went with a night wedding. Although I still love this, we were pressed for time on the pictures due to limited daylight. Most of the pictures came out beautifully, due to the amazing Kevin Barre, but I didn't get some of the pictures I wanted (pictures with grandparents, fun pictures with bride and groom) because it was frantic racing the sun. On the other hand, had we done it during the day, we would have had less time to set up what we wanted the day of, which is sometimes crucial to an at-home wedding outside.
Nina and Evan decided to get married on her parent's wedding anniversary date. After all the first dances were finished, Nina invited her parents to the dance floor and dedicated a special song for them in celebration of their anniversary.
