While many brides dream of their princess wedding - this bride actually had hers, in a stunning château in France! The couple knew they wanted to have their destination wedding in the Burgundy region in France, because of the rich food & wine culture paired with the naturally beautiful countryside. Château de Varennes was the top of their venue tour list and it was love at first sight!
Keep reading to see how this fairytale wedding featured colorful florals, croquembouche cake, and ended the night with a fireworks spectacular. All gorgeous photography by Maïlys Fortune Photography.
Couple Mary and Sage met back in 2017, while working together at Tumblr in New York. After spending a company beach day together, they've been inseparable ever since! Mary knew that for her bridal style she wanted a look that classic but entirely her own. She began her glam styling with hair by AM Coiffure and makeup by Annette Thornton Makeup Artist.
Bride, Mary, had this to say about selecting and styling her custom wedding gown:
"I came across Rebecca Schoneveld Bridal, and I loved that they were size-inclusive and all of the gowns are customizable. I took the train to their flagship atelier on the Hudson in Irvington, NY. I tried on about 15 dresses. I fell in love with the Giselle and worked with the team to tweak little details to make it perfect for me. We added a custom pearl tulle topper and removable straps. I had a few different looks on the wedding day, and I absolutely loved it."
When Sage proposed to Mary, he chose a location as romantic as their wedding destination! He took Mary to the Glow light show at the South Coast Botanic Gardens in Palos Verdes, CA (where he grew up). They walked all around the gardens, and at the end of the night, he got down on one knee and asked Mary to marry him. It only seemed fitting that the couple would have their first look in the château's gardens!
The couple loved that the Château could accommodate so many of their friends and family - spending the weekend under one roof was one of the best parts of their wedding!
Black And White Destination Wedding At Chateau De Varennes
A Fairy-Tale Wedding At The Conference Laxenburg
Diamonds, Bows, And Lace Popped At This Monochromatic French Shoot
Mary & Sage's bridal party stunned in classic monochrome attire. The modern black fashion popped against the colorful florals by La Blonde et le Barbu.
The most touching part of the wedding day for the couple was their intimate chapel vows and ceremony. The vintage architecture of the château created a timeless backdrop for their "I do's".
A highlight from the couple's big day was Mary's nephew acting as ring bearer:
"My nephew bringing the rings was so sweet. He tried giving the rings to our friends along the way. They all gently nudged him in the right direction, and he finally gave the rings to his new Uncle Sage."
As if this destination wedding reception could not get any more fabulous - the newlyweds welcomed friends and family for a scrumptious dinner by Château de Varennes' private chef George Winterford. The estate's dining room was adorned in colorful details inspired by the wild peacocks of the groom's hometown in California!
The peacock inspired florals were complemented by luxurious details by Jolibazaar. The couple didn't even realize until their ceremony that there were also peacock motifs on the chapel as well! It felt like a sign for the perfect wedding day.
In planning their elaborate destination wedding, bride Mary had this crucial piece of advice:
"Get a planner! Aurelie at Peony Moments was our wedding fairy godmother. I had no idea what I was doing, and we had so many moving parts. Everyone keeps complimenting me on the wedding and I cannot take any credit. Aurelie handled everything, from vendor recommendations for flowers, photography, videography, fireworks, to organizing the shuttles for our guests. Everything went off without a hitch and we are eternally grateful."
Having good food & wine was very important to the couple - and it's safe to say they nailed their goal with this luxurious private chef catering and custom croquembouche wedding cake!
The couple ended the night with a spectacular surprise of a private fireworks show over the château, with their closest friends and family. This was an absolutely magical send off to their fairytale day!
