One of the most amazing things about Cabo is how the bright pinks, oranges, reds, and yellows of the area contrast against the green and blue surroundings. It was easy for Nichols Photographers and Savvy Weddings to picture this same contrast set in the beautiful California Foothill venue, Black Oak Mountain Vineyard. The inspiration from Mexico didn't stop there, however - furniture and other decor pulled inspo from throughout Mexico that complemented the landscape of the venue that incorporated the outlines of the Sierra mountains and the surrounding desert landscaping. When it came to choosing the wedding gown, Ashley with Ellis Blake Bridal chose a variety of styles to feature at the shoot. The Randy Fenoli Goddess gown that was worn for the ceremony was an intentional choice of a glittery A-line dress with a Basque waist that worked perfectly with the extravagance of the ceremony florals.
The surroundings at the hilltop at Black Oak were already so beautiful that Ada Wong Design knew she had to go big in her designs. She did just that by covering the front of a wooden arch with smilax greenery, roses, Gerber daisies, and carnations in a variety of fuchsia, orange, yellow, and blush tones. She also created lush ground meadow arrangements to line the ceremony aisle. Wanting the florals to stand out, light wood cane back chairs and a slatted wooden aisle runner were chosen to bring in the Mexican influence to the ceremony.
The Pronovias Albiorix embroidered mermaid gown was worn for cocktail hour and carried through the same glittery elements of the ceremony dress in a silhouette better suited for a poolside cocktail hour.
Savvy Weddings pulled from an array of wicker and velvet furniture to create colorful seating areas for cocktail hour. String lights lit the way as the sun went down, and guests had no shortage of seating options.
For the reception, the bride changed into a trendy, pearl-embellished mini dress with a shoulder length veil featuring a bow. She wore cat-eye sunglasses, pearl gloves, and carried an ivory clutch, all perfectly complimenting the vintage inspired reception decor items and bright pops of color within the reception.
The design for the reception emphasized how you can use the venue’s existing structures to create something that feels completely different. The existing outdoor cabanas at Black Oak created an intimate dining experience for each guest table. Ada Wong Design softened the dark wood tones of the cabanas with smilax greenery and added woven pendant chandeliers from Archive Rentals to each cabana to give an elevated ambiance.
A mixture of round tables with a peach-colored linen and light wooden king's tables were used for the dining tables. Each table featured its own unique design but included the same overall sunset color scheme and florals. The tables incorporated different styles and textures like vintage glassware, stoneware, crystal-handled flatware, woven and fringe chargers, and patterned napkins from BBJ La Tavola.
